* The United States’ military intervention in Venezuela and the possible takeover of the country’s oil resources has heightened the need to enhance export capacity for Canadian crude, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said in an interview Wednesday.
* “Canada is in somewhat of a race now, whether with the U.S. or Venezuela. Can (Venezuela) further develop the production of their resource and can they make the investments in a short while to increase their export infrastructure so they can get it to the U.S.? * “When a country like the U.S., where Saskatchewan exports 95 per cent of our oil, is involved in essentially the capture of the president of Venezuela and diverting that oil product to the U.S., when it’s going to China now, that is something we certainly pay attention to in this province,” Moe said.” Whether or not it will have an economic impact is yet to be seen.”
* Saskatchewan’s economic future, and the future of the energy sector in Canada, the premier said, hinges on whether they will be able to access global markets through West Coast pipelines and ports.
* „If we are serious about moving beyond the U.S. with existing or additional production, in this case, oil, we need to get very serious about rapidly building some of that export infrastructure that we need to be able to access the world,” Moe said.

That shouldn’t be too hard to achieve. By expert accounts we’ve got about ten years before Venezuela could come anywhere near to what our production output is. That’s ten years assuming a decided of political stability and investment in the country. Which seems like a pipe (haha, get it?) dream
I thought Moe was onboard with Smith about leaving Canada?
at least Canada has a head start considering we actually have, you know, functional production capability.
Liberals will just delay and delay and delay, just like they have for the past 10 years. And when Venezuela updates their infrastructure in the next few years we will say ”Why didn’t we build a pipeline to west/east”.

I am concerned that the question isn’t so much „How long will it take for Venezuelan oil to replace Canadian oil“ but more „How much oil does the US need from Venezuela for Trump to start increasing the tariffs on Canadian oil“
Venezuela produces about 1m bbl/day of oil, assuming that all gets rerouted to the US, is it enough to move tariffs on Canadian oil from 10 to 20%? It might take decades to fully remediate the Venezuelan oil industry, but are there quick wins that could be realized in Trump’s 18 month timeframe that could bring 500k to 1m bbl/day online that would allow further tariff hikes on Canadian oil?
With respect to the mid-continent refineries that handle most of Canada’s oil, and nothing from the Gulf Coast, just look at the US industries that have been badly damaged by his steel and aluminum tariffs, he doesn’t care.
He thinks he can annex Canada during his current administration. That isn’t going to happen, but he thinks it can and he is willing to try to starve us out over the concerns of US industries…they are all afraid of him.
It isn’t a matter of when they can replace Canadian oil, but when they can start increasing tariffs.
First consult all 40 million Canadians…
Really don’t need business advice from someone who’s claimed bankruptcy, then somehow plunged his province into a massive debt, while raising taxes and cutting services.
Amzong how these 🤡 dont wake up until its too late and always scramble at last min. US have the capital to achieve things with fast pace. We will just be getting signs on paper from natives and big project offices and what not.

This is categorically false. Watch any experts in the oil industry…this oil will be in the ground for years.
PM Carney is going to China to do exactly what Moe is suggesting. Moe is a little slow. He and Smith have been under Houston’s influence for a very long time and now they have been burned by MAGA whom they were pretty much in bed with. Things change and they both got caught with their pants down.
