Curious to know what the „other“ category represents? Is that area of blue where people are crossing the border into Afghanistan?

Hopefully all those people will be free one day.

The only ones with a possible separatist movement I can see happening would be the Azeris, Kurds, and Balochs. The other groups are either too small or there hasn’t really been a history of a strong separatist sentiment.
I’m not sure about the Arabs. Their biggest opportunity to separate came during the Iran-Iraq War which did not happen.

Religion is not complex. Iran is 90-95% Shia. Major Sunnis are Kurds on NW corner and Baluchis in SE corner. Even they are part of Greater Iranian Civilization for centuries. Comparatively Kurds and Baluchis are more „odd ones“ in Turkey and Pakistan as compare to Iran.

What’s with everyone talking about partition and separatist movements when a map about different ethnicities in Iran show up.

„west Azerbaijan“ is literally Kurdish according to this map. It’s like showing „Kurdistan, Iran“ as Azerbaijani. West Azerbaijan, most notably Urmia, is Azerbaijani. Qazvin is also Azerbaijani.

How did the Kurds get in the North East? It seems as very far away from their original area

Not to take into account the topological differences of the regions, which makes ethnic segregation an even bigger problem.
