    1. Let me guess, less taxes that will benefit the middle class a tiny bit but be a massive benefit to the wealthy?

    2. Love me a shitty paywall.

But really, to actually increase Canada’s tax competetiveness meaningfully would require basically upending our entire economy and saying **FUCK YOU** to the middle and lower classes.

“Let me guess, trickle down? Taxes will benefit the middle class a little bit but overly enrich the wealthy”

I…I volunteer to take that little bit…I also volunteer to have my taxes lowered a little bit lolol

Like, I’m not sure what else you want. We’re not doing great with the current system and we do not have the time rather not have a socialist revolution

Not that it wouldn’t be good, I just can’t see myself teaming up with modern socialists.

    4. “*Caranci said tax reform is needed to spur growth because the current system discourages higher earnings. For example, preferential tax rates for small businesses stop after C$500,000, causing a “bunching” of firms at that threshold, she said.*”

This is such an incredibly brazen thing to say with a straight f’n face

On no planet would anyone say they don’t want to make more money because after 500k they would be taxed more.

This comment is so out of touch with reality

    5. Here is an innovative idea; STOP TAXING LABOR.

Tax capital! Money making money being taxed is infinitely more fair than taxing human labor.

Taxing human labor is absolutely cruelty.

Taxing money that makes money has no human impact.

We run an enormous deficit every year.  Every year we spend money on ourselves that we expect our kids to repay.  Mostly we spend it on consumption, not on bridges, hospitals, or anything else permanent.

Cutting taxes is just compounding the mess we leave for the next generation.  We need to raise taxes, or cut spending, or most likely both.

    7. Saudi Arabia has no tax. No homeless, and no unemployment. Same population size.
Same deposits of oil, gas, rare minerals etc.
What made Canada to share differently?

Income tax was supposed to be temporarily installed for the war. So they should start there and remove that. Promise kept after almost 100 yrs. But we got to it eventually

      Income Tax must go.

it is an incredibly wasteful tax which costs a lot of time and money to implement only to arrive at a very regressive result.

TFSA, RRSP, Accountants, account fees, lost accounts, filling time, record keeping, CRA employees, withholding costs. the harm caused by income tax is massive.

the purported benefit of income tax being „progressive“ is an economics 101 myth and nothing more. once you look at deductions and millionaires not having income you quickly see it is regressive.

people cannot compete with foreign labor, robots, AI, self checkout machines, automation, etc. when they pay income vs electronics
      that do not.

income tax benefits banks and the rich

stop taxing work and the suckers who do it.

Sliding corporate tax scale. Base it on CEO total compensation to average front line worker ratio.

What they should do is make the income brackets higher thresholds. That would directly help the middle class and poorer people. I have always been saying this and almost everyone agrees with me. Then people will have more agency and buy more unlike tax breaks for the rich buy more capital and infrastructure to make everyone else poorer.

    12. BrightPerspective on

      Oh, I’m sure they do.

Just…take some of those pesky rules away, some of the guardrails off, it’s stifling growth.

Middle and lower income put their money into the economy. Rich people hide it offshore or hoard it…

    14. Force the major corporations to give back their CERB they didn’t need and problem solved

Cut taxes on people making under $150k. It used to be a sign of wealth to make „six figures,“ but now it’s super common and no longer a ticket to being rich.

A real radical proposal would be a nationwide 5% land value tax that we slowly increment up to, increasing by 0.25% every year until we hit 5% thereby cooling land speculation slowly, freeing up capital, and lowering land costs, which lowers labour costs.
