So Luanda is on here but Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Chongqing, Chengdu, Hyderabad, Tehran, Tianjin, etc.. are not. All of the cities I mentioned are frequently cited as having metro populations over 10 million.

    2. This really shows that the majority of humans tend to settle where many others are and where things have already been established.

    3. Another bullshit map. Defining a cities borders is way too hard and these maps are always misleading, no matter what source you use.

For those wondering why Southeast Asia has four megacities (Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam merged several provinces on July 1, 2025.

Before the merger, Ho Chi Minh City had nearly 10 million residents. After Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Binh Duong provinces were annexed, the metropolitan population increased to approximately 14 million.

This map is nonsense because Osaka’s population is less than 10 million.

    6. This dataset’s methodology is stupid, it says Shenzhen is part of Guangzhou and that Guangzhou has a population of 43 million. Many cities are cut off unreasonably because of geographic formations, how big a city is just depends on how lucky they are with aligning with the 1km^2 squares
