This whole Greenland thing is just ridiculous
The US didn’t really like colonialism in 1776. Guess
it’s fine when they are the oppressor.
I didn’t realize Greenland was in Scandinavia? If you’re against American colonialism you should be against European colonialism as well.
Does this person think that Greenland is a native Danish territory? Denmark isn’t even the first European country to hold it.
What the fuck is a bjork, never heard of it
A little rash down my spine.
No one cares what she has to say
Bjork’s in the fight guys! It’s all gonna be okay now!
for ppl who dont remember who bjork is heres a music video she made 17 years ago https://youtu.be/KJRiBDMfrTU?si=ceveaLBMJiDRpyH3
I love the photos they chose for her. Usually celebrities get shit pictures chosen in political articles not stylish and artistic ones.
Yup that’s Bjork all right
Greenland isn’t even really a country and to be honest Denmark pretty much ceded all control during the Cold war when they allowed the US to set up military bases there. It’s not like the United States doesn’t already wield a massive amount of influence in all Greenland affairs. It’s pretty much just a formality at this point that they are a Danish territory.
Also it’s wild mentioning colonialism when it was colonized by the Europeans. Anyone who is Danish should absolutely be quiet when it comes to mentioning colonialism. Especially considering all the genocides they committed in Canada against the indigenous people they haven’t apologized for. I guess raping, pillaging and colonizing is okay when the Vikings do it.
man i fucking love björk
I want to call out that Greenland’s politics is complicated. Most Greenlanders (and the current government coalition of Inuit Ataqatigiit and Siumut) support independence … eventually. But the strategy is pragmatic: they want to wait until certain economic conditions are met to avoid financial collapse.
Currently, the Danish government provides a block grant to Greenland, roughly equal to $11,300 per person annually.
That grant funds about half of Greenland’s entire public budget, covering essential services like universal healthcare, free education, and social infrastructure. If they declared independence tomorrow without an economic replacement (like a massive mining or tourism boom), they would lose that funding instantly, which would cripple the standard of living. That’s why the sentiment is „independence is the goal, but not at the cost of bankruptcy.“
Mining is another complicated topic, most Greenlanders are opposed to it but there’s a sense that will change in the coming generations, and the proceeds from it could be used to support a self-sufficient Greenland.
Thank God Björk spoke out
Bjork can fix this if anybody can. Go Bjork!!!
