Being raised by the internet leads to many young people not having very good social skills. Many don’t have a group of friends they regularly see face to face and don’t go interact with peers much. Instead they’ll play video games online with a couple friends. I keep seeing it here in Reddit.. young men especially asking how to date and through further questioning it turns out they are basically inexperienced at even socialising with strangers.. like they can’t even make friends let alone GFs when they’re scared to talk to strangers because they never learned social skills and think everyone is just waiting to make a cringe video of them and put it on tiktok.

A major reason that is often ignored is that the economy is total garbage for Gen Z. We don’t have enough money and free time to actually go out and do the activities that lead to these things. Also the the pressure from our parents to become overachievers really did not give us the time and opportunity for „unproductive“ stuff like partying and alcohol. And now all that effort leads to struggling in a bad job market with no hope for the future.

Now imagine if you will…. full dive technology meaning you can experience a game with every sense is available.

You lay in the pod, it does its thing. And you are in the game.

You can experience everything with every sense. Every food you eat from a beautiful meal to an earth worm is delicious. Every smell smells real but the good smells are hightened ten fold. Everything you can see you can touch and feel even your own skin. Or someone else’s.

You leave the pod to return to work… responsibilities… life….

You meet a character in the games that clicks with you. They say the right things, they strive to make you happy. Help you in your desires. Give you push back and let you lean on them. You spend years playing this game with them

You’ve spent all this time with them and you ask them to meet IRL only for them to say they cant. You didnt know they arent outside the pod. They are your best friend. Know everything about you. You mightve saved each other countless times in countless battles that all look and feel real but you know you cannot actually die in the game. Maybe you’ve made love to this person in this game where all of your senses are telling you that this is real….

You are devastated to find out that this person… this AI only exists here. They make you happy. They make you feel connected and fulfilled. No one has experienced more with you and as far as you could tell they were real in every way….

For us today. Vr is a little bit of a gimmick but the baby steps of the technology is there and the help of AI could have us developing this technology in the next 15 to 30 years reasonably.

Us millennials will be the boomers of today by then. And even we will choose the pod over loneliness. We will choose companionship of any kind over silence and loneliness.

Kids who grow up on that technology might not choose the pod over real relationships every time but a large number will choose the pod as it may have been their life long friend. They may not even care about the difference by that point between a virtual reality and an actual one. After all, if all your senses say its real. When is it not?

For all we know. This could be the great filter. We can create any reality we wish to live and then live in it. It would be the rare person that would choose to live a life of relative suffering over living a life of your own choosing. Being fulfilled by a perfect recreation of everything you could want or need.
