Greeks from Megara founded the city centuries before Christ…then it became the capital of the Roman Empire and Haghia Sofia the most sacred temple of Christianity was founded in the 6th century.
Actual Urban area of İstanbul sprawls over the purple area. Districts of Gebze, Darıca, Çayırova and even Dilovası are more connected to İstanbul rather than downtown İzmit (Kocaeli) even though they are official departments of Kocaeli province.
Why the one on the Asian side is not called the City of Üsküdar ?
Istanbul was partly Constantinople, mostly Istanbul not Constantinople.
Fun fact: Chalcedon (Kadikoy) is older than Byzantion

There still exist European ppl who call it Constantinople, in the XXI century…smh

That’s why Istanbul is NOT the biggest city of Europe.
The old Constantinople is now the [Fatih](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatih) district of Istanbul
The historical Constantinople looks like a copy of the whole entire peninsula thingy to the left of the Bosphorus
