BREAKING NEWS: Heads of richest companies get paid a lot.
Why can’t we rally behind fair wages like we do with slowing immigration?
I’m pretty sure it was 5 days to get an typical annual salary a couple of years ago.
Average ftse 100 CEO salary is around £4.5 million.
Are they worth it?
They are running businesses with £1 billion + turn over.
So in my view yes they probably are.
However, when you have companies like Tesco who have many staff relying on universal credit there is something very wrong.
Reducing the CEOs salary would do nothing to improve the lot for the workers. Using Tesco example again halving the average CEO wage would mean £6 a year more for each worker.
If they had a profit share scheme or ran as a cooperative that £6 would be £10,000.
I have over simplified the numbers but don’t focus on one persons wage, focus on the system.
We really need to reform the voting rights afforded to fund managers. They keep voting for payrises for their buddies. Who give them paid non-exec positions on their board.
Compensation committees full of execs deciding pay rises for their buddy, who will be on the compensation committee when their turn comes around.
Strangely enough all these people seems to think CEO compensation needs to keep rising all the time, irregardless of actual performance. Strange that.
This is probably the part of NY I hate the most along with the when to stop wishing HNY
They post it to boast and to depress the workers who can do nothing other than be glad to have a job
This makes a lot of sense. The FTSE 100 are the largest companies in the UK; the decisions these CEOs make easily have 100x the impact of the decisions and actions of an average employee.
Obviously, at this level of responsibility, the pay is no longer about work in a strict sense. So that should be reflected in low base pay – a person’s guaranteed income should never be this high and I wouldn’t be opposed to maximum limits for that. For CEOs, additional incentives are needed for good outcomes – so bonuses for good performance and meeting targets should be where the money is. No more £3m payouts for CEOs overseeing massive losses.
Come on now, that’s not fair. They’ll be paying a higher rate of income tax for a start.
They’ll have to work about *five* days to overtake typical workers on an after-tax basis.
One advantage of working for a tiny company is I’m pretty sure my boss doesn’t make 2.7 million quid a year, I’ve seen his house and car.
Well well well. There’s a surprise said nobody ever.
Theyre just 200% better than. The rich are basically another species some even say that they are a race of lizard men. We should bow to them and thank them for not reducing our wages more.
The people who run the biggest companies in the country get paid much money. More news at 11.
In other news: Erling Haaland made more than money playing football in the first day of the year, than me playing the Sunday League.
Am I the only one that is not necessarily that arsed by this?
Like it or not, we are in a free market, and companies are free to pay pisstake salaries if they like. As they are hired by what appears to be smart businesses, you would think that these people must invariably offer more than they cost.
It is not like they are being forced to pay the huge salaries if they want a lower caliber of exec, and it is not like the exec pay is taking money out of the pockets of the typical worker. If the boss is on 1 or 20 million, those typical workers will get paid shit regardless, that shit pay is what we should focus on and not the fact that the big machine at the top is doing dead well.
The real issue is when these companies end up paying less in tax than their CEO makes. That costs us all.
Id like to see a typical worker do a ftse 100 company ceo job for three days.
