Could never trust an opposition leader who celebrates a foreign state openly violating their countries’ sovereignty and taking ownership of the national resources tbh
We will soon find out what „freedom at any cost“ actually means.
Trump publicly said the US will run Venezuela, so what freedom?
Edit: Good to see that people are already trotting out the same hits from the last Republican war. Already been told to get out of America if I don’t support this and being hit with „with us or against us“ crap.
„Freedom? More Like under new Management“
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said Saturday the “hour of freedom” had arrived for her country after the United States seized strongman Nicolas Maduro from power.
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Machado, who has been in hiding since Maduro’s disputed reelection in July 2024, said in a post on X that opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, whom the opposition says won the vote, “must immediately assume his constitutional mandate” as president.
“Venezuelans, the HOUR OF FREEDOM has arrived!” she posted.
In Madrid, Venezuelan opposition activists and others who follow the situation in their homeland were glued to TV and social media on Saturday, amazed by news of Nicolas Maduro’s capture by U.S. forces.
Terrible how Reddit turned against her so quickly.
So no political infighting or civil war will happen?
It’ll be peaceful transition?
Let’s see how this plays out because it never worked out before I mean Syria just went through this.. let’s see though.
Edit: they are celebrating but now they are under USA control. It’s Iraq all over again.
Going to get down voted to hell but this is objectively a good thing. I’m not a Trump fan and about as left as you can get. But Maduro has been an absolute monster for years and just ruined the entire country. And there’s no exaggeration in that statement. Go talk with any Venezuelan and you will know Maduro being taken out is what they have been praying for, for years.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss
Ignorance of the hive mind on Reddit is hilarious.
Lol the US owns Venezuela now.
What do the actual venezuelan people say? All I hear is opinions of americans on reddit who have never even been there.
Edit: ive gotten many replies. So why are americans so upset if venezuelans seem to be pretty happy? Lol
The Venezuelan people seem to be happy. I’m just happy for them. Hope everything works out in the end.
Must be difficult for Venezuelans in the US; like yeah on the one hand, the US Admin removed Maduro….
… on the other hand, they REALLY want to make you disappear into an ICE facility.
Someone’s about to win the ‘fell for it again’ award.
Iraqis hated Saddam
Libyans hated Gaddafi
Afghanis hated the Taliban
Doesn’t mean it ends well
My Ukrainian sister is in a refugee camp in Spain right now and she says there are so many Venezuelans with kids there. It is wild because there are actually more of them in Spain than Ukrainians who fled from the war and bombings. Do people here even realize how brutal the Maduro regime was? Over 8 million people have fled the country for political and social reasons even without an active war. That is almost a quarter of their entire population. Of course every Venezuelan is happy to see him finally gone.
Kind of surprised how fast Reddit turned on this lady, just because she is on board with getting rid of Maduro. I don’t like Trump, but Maduro was much much worse for the Venezuelans. Will Trump be better? Probably not, but Venezuelans right now want any change as they have been stuck with Chavismo for most of their lives.
Hilarious that Machado became a super trumper and was all for it, and then Trump swoops in and takes out her opposition and yet denies her the leadership role.
Trump just placed himself as leader of an independent nation through a hostile act of war with zero approval from congress and we’ll just let it happen with no consequences. No one doing a damn thing about it.
We should all be ashamed. Do your fucking job, CIA.
Super, and we would all like to see somebody like her running the place, but the VP in power now said nothing doing so will be a slog still and Trump has threatened more strikes. I heard the latter first and was like, why telegraph that? And then I heard the VP story from multiple sources. Oh. Thats why.
She’s going to be disappointed when she finds out her new boss is Chevron
