Its baffling how so many people on Reddit are talking as if the US had full on invaded Venezuela and had like 20 divisions there right now.

They didn’t, I think the „plan“ is to intimidate the remaining leaders of the regime into submission but at least outwardly, so far, they don’t seem to be playing along.

Also the fact that Trump threw Maria Corina Machado (the democratically elected leader, by proxy) under the bus during his press conference was comical.

The world has gotten both so dire and dumb at the same time.

I think this whole things shows the US has unmatched military prowess but an utterly deranged political leadership, just pure chaos.

Trump assumes the Venezuelan security forces he paid off to assist in the kidnapping will simply install his people. If only it were that simple.

I am sure the Venezuelan military will fight to defend her the way they did Maduro.

More than likely this is a coordinated response. If I were to guess the Venezuelan military leaders are already in the US pocket so the VP probably doesn’t have any cards to play but needs to keep a lid on civil unrest.

OR she IS trying to get couped too?

I mean it’s pretty clear the next leader has one job.

Open the oil fields to American companies.

Anything short of that will result in your elimination

Edit: Venzuela VP is in Russia. Pretty convenient to be out of the country when the president is captured. To me certainly seems like she knows what’s happening.

  5. Yeah, good luck lady. The same people that sold him out, aren’t gonna help you. There’s no way this happens without senior leadership paving the way.

There’s some value in a foreign adversary thinking your leader is deranged. The Soviets thought Reagan was a lunatic, and were wary to pass him off. That value goes away if your leader actually is deranged.

Is she the one who supposedly talked to Rubio and supposedly said that she will do as she was told?

There was this old skit by some comedy troupe, I forget who it was – maybe Whitest Kids You Know? – where all the guys are soldiers in the woods, in the middle of some action, and their sergeant gets shot, and the rest of them all just stop, stand up, and start walking around aimlessly, like they’re robots who suddenly have no programming.

This is what Trump thinks of Venezuela. Grab Maduro, and now the whole country suddenly becomes rudderless, just waiting for him to swoop in and take control.

    *Idiot.*

  9. The President ordered U.S. military strikes in Venezuela and seized its president and his wife without a declaration of war or congressional approval, even though the Constitution gives Congress that power. Reports began emerging around 11:00 p.m. PST on January 2, 2026.

There’s been no U.S. attack, no UN approval, and no congressional consent. Some are claiming he had “48 hours to do whatever he wants,” but that’s false – the War Powers Resolution only requires him to notify Congress, it does not give him the authority to start hostilities. Acting without congressional approval is very likely unconstitutional, and this strike is a unilateral initiation of hostilities that could have massive consequences.

Trump launched this illegal “Big Beautiful War” on Venezuela after openly signaling intent to take control of the country’s oil.

You don’t just bomb a country and kidnap its leaders and expect nothing to happen. By both U.S. law and international law, this is extremely serious, likely illegal, and a massive overreach of presidential power.

If she can convince either Russia or China to put boots on the ground to stabilize Venezuela, it’s over. Whatever Trump thinks, a lot of people are positioning for a power grab.
