      China lulled itself into complacency and assumed that Trump would be a more isolationist president. That didn’t turn out to be the case. They’re far from happy, and this demonstration of US power has surely unsettled them. Now, they’re probably rethinking their entire „just sit back and let your enemy destroy itself“ strategy. China wanted to believe the US was a decaying empire whose time had passed, and that China’s moment had finally arrived, but things are never that simple.
