  1. And the sky is blue. Good for him for saying this part out loud!!

Hope every single time Trump complains about “Nobel Peace Prize”, people remind him about Venezuela!

  2. And no one will do a thing about it will they. No one can hold the US accountable. Sadly.

If, say, Trump did the same to Putin, would this be called a serious affront to Russian sovereignty and would Redditors condemn it? Serious question.

Why don’t we see what the Venezuelans think? Oh wait they are celebrating in the streets. Countries will act shocked and upset when all of them minus China/Russia wanted the same thing

Condemnation <> Action. Worldwide lip service will be hysterical, again.

  6. TheHammer8989 on

Every single Venezuelan comment I’ve read is about how this is a good thing. But I guess Reddit knows better than the people living through this. Bad orange man did it so it doesn’t matter what Venezuelans think. Reddit really is a broken echo chamber.

  7. ‚Might is right‘ has been US foreign policy for decades, except this time some of us are taking a whole lot of pride in that belief, and that’s a problem…

„Sovereignty“ is too long a word for most Americans to understand.

It’s not the definition, the entire concept is alien to them.

So was having a murderous dictator who massacred protestors and stole elections (key word: was)

  10. Everyone in Venezuela and the entire Venezuelan diaspora are celebrating and calling it the greatest day of their lives, meanwhile the socialist allies of oppressive dictatorships are crying their eyes out

😂 You people have lost it. This truly has to be a sub of Russian bots or something.

Do you even pay attention to your own news? Lula blames NATO and Ukraine as much as Russia for a war Russia explicitly started. He doesn’t give a shit about Ukrainian sovereignty, at a least not enough to make a real statement against Russia for violating it.

  14. Maduro’s illegitimate dictatorship was a serious affront to the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people. They chose someone else to govern them, not Maduro. This attack restores the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people through their democratically elected leader who presumably will return to power.

  15. As serious an affront to democracy as Maduro? I bet we won’t do that to Ms Machado.

  16. GirthdayBoy on

So you’re all hitting the ground at full sprint that Maduro was a solid dude who ran a decent, yet misunderstood government there, didn’t deserve this and the Venezuelan people likely will be worse off?

I’m not thrilled with this unilaterally declared military action, but can we please stop pretending like Venezuela had a legitimate government? Maduro blatantly stole multiple elections, just like Chavez did. All the stuff people worry about happening here – rubber stamp Congress and corrupt Supreme Court enabling a dictator, kleptocracy – it happened there.

  18. CourierFive on

Yeah, stealing other people’s shit (literally), tends to do that, in normal circumstances. But in this case, no matter how violated they might look, they are probably celebrating.

Brazil has lots of oil too and the Amazon. Trump wants to declare Brazil’s criminal organizations like PCC as terrorists. You can put two and two together here and see why he is rightfully worried.

  20. Lula is just mad that America did in 3 hours what Russia hasn’t in its **1,044 day special operation.**

  21. I mean Maduro is a massive pos. But what about all the other massive pos around the world? I guess they don’t withhold enough oil from the US to be worth disposing? Not that illegal kidnappings of heads of state should become common place imo.

It was all over once Russia sent Venezuela a shipment of weapons a few weeks ago.

You can’t meaningfully have sovereignty anymore without nukes. The only reliable way to stop larger powers from bullying you at will is to have nukes.

  24. Actual Venezuelan people are happy about it though. They aren’t thinking about the intricacies of international law while waiting in a line for 12 hours for 1 loaf of bread.

Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and Paraguay all came out firmly in favor of the idea that Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia won the 2024 election in Venezuela. Where’s Brazil? At a certain point, by not taking a side you take a side because biases come out and trends take shape. Lula doesn’t condemn Venezuela, Iran, Russia or Cuba. He’s transparent.

  25. Soveriegnity is a right not of states but of peoples.

Trump denies the American people their own Soveriegnity when he violates our constitution to wage this war, but nothing done unto the Maduro regime is a violation of the Venezuelan people’s soveriegnity.

  26. Lula just keeps on defending the Chavez/Maduro dictatorship. He clearly does not want a stable Venezuela to his north.
