The big question is if Trump will move ahead and occupy Greenland. If this happens, it will be one if the toughest situations the EU had to deal with in its history.

Agreed, but this isn’t a peaceful transition. Putin is also not the legitimate president of Russia, since Russia has no free and fair elections. Or Orban, for that matter. Is Trump going to attack Moscow and Budapest and kidnap Putin and Orban, too? We all know the answer to that question.
And that’s because this isn’t about the legitimacy of Maduro. It isn’t about alleged drug smugglers. And it certainly isn’t about the people of Venezuela. Trump doesn’t give one flying fuck about the Venezuelan people.
This is about oil, money, distraction, and gaining (more) control over South and Central America. And North America, too.

To all people cheering for this illegal action by the Trump administration; yes, Maduro is a thug, but this isn’t the way to deal with it. Putin will now feel emboldened to keep his illegal war going in Ukraine. If anyone is complaining about it, he’ll simply point at Trump. End of discussion. This illegal attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of Maduro will have global effects, and it will be felt in Europe, too. And not for the better.

So at this point there are 2 scenarios:
1. Trump declares mission accomplished with the capture of Maduro and leaves Venezuela alone (similarly to Bush Sr with Iraq in 1991)
2. Trump demands a full regime change in favor of Maria „My oil is your oil“ Machado. Either the Venezuelan army gives up (not unlikely, as demoralisation was already an issue before today) or a full blown invasion happens
Cool, so the US can pick up anyone from any country to face US’s court of law and be tried by US laws in the US whenever they damn well please.

Calling for „restraint“ after the deed is done sums up the uselessness of EU leadership.
It is good that the US finally has a government which isn’t overly cautious and terrified of its own shadow and fear to intervene in other countries.
It is just unfortunate that the government also is authoritarian and anti-democracy, even if it in this particular case unseated a dictator (presumably to install one of their own).
The message the EU should take from this is that the new USA will not hesitate to attack them if Trump on a whim decides to do so.
Use your brain people , not long ago half of Europe was under dictatorship rule . You can think of this as an anti-russian move , no need to wrongly think this is similar to Ukraine . Ukraine is nothing like this , Maduro was a dictator , Zelensky is not , Russia is an enemy , US is more favorable .

Not a fan of the Maduro regime or the Chávez one for that matter, but we used to have rules. Someone have mercy with the UN and put it out of its misery. As much as we hate the way the USA has been lately, this guy was basically a dictator and running his country into the ground. Even his second and especially third re-election was found to be illegitimate and his opponent had got more votes. Been going on for years that this fucker was in charge and ruining the lives of regular people. All in all I doubt anyone will miss this guy.
Despite that, the USA can try to hand wave its reasons as to why they acted now but we all know the real reasons. Crazy times indeed.
Why do people expect EU sanctions over Venezuela?
The only countries aligned with Maduro are China and Russia. The US complicating their own relationship with these powers is a win in my book. Moreover, we have nothing to gain from defending Maduro. Doing nothing is the best course of action here.
Beyond the immediate issue of Maduro’s capture, I have no faith that they properly planned a transition from Maduro to Machado and that is where worry lies and we may want to advise the US. While I have hope Maduro’s removal can usher in a better future for Venezuela, this may just be the start of a long period of instability.
They didn’t say the same when Russia invaded. The international laws are a joke at this point!
