A concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
i mean isnt this what people wanted ?
Same shit everywhere. No developers should get near a house foundation until everything else is committed to, planned and financed.
Colour me shocked
People are just exhausting.
At this point just build the Effing Houses.
Would improve the place
Build more infrastructure, more amenities around big new housing developments!
If you look around carrilgaline, glanmire, ballincollig, naas, drogheda, wherever, you will find massive newish housing developments with thousands of young families and kids and teens with zero infrastructure and zero amenities.
More often than not:
No local shop
No crèche for the 100s of kids
No pub
No restaurant
No school
No playground
Nothing for teens to do
No GP
No dentist
No pharmacy
No bike lanes, no active travel supports
Limited bus routes, no bus shelters
Zero, nothing, zilch
Nothing to build a community for people to make friends
And then we wonder why traffic is so bad?? Cos we have to drive everywhere all the time for everything. Drive into carrigaline, down to Douglas, over to Wilton. All stuck in traffic all wondering why traffic is so bad all the time!!
If only they could build some infrastructure when new developments are being planned! Nope they won’t and we spend our evenings on Reddit complaining about traffic
Councils draft up their pretty development plans, but they won’t provide infrastructure in advance – so what are developers supposed to do? It’s all just a public sector makework scheme.
Try letterkenny, fucking housing estates built and being built everywhere,I’m not for people not moving here, but uisce eireain,I think it close enough for the.spelling have refused a few estates cos they don’t have the capacity to serve them, one of the new developments was going to be beside St.Eunans
As an immigrant, the biggest issue I see is a lack of proper vision at the local level. Many new projects in my wife’s hometown in Poland have strict requirements from the local government. For example, new apartments built on the outskirts of town had to include a crèche, a local shop, a few empty units for other businesses, and a new bus route to the city center. Without these, the company would not receive planning permission. But in Ireland, we just build new estates like crazy, producing more problems than solving, like the aforementioned lack of local amenities requiring travel to other areas, which produces bigger traffic. We are stuck on building USA style when a) its regarded as worst possible urban planning b) have access to solutions known to work.
No shit, correct to point it out but this is as clear as the nose on your face! It’s the same everywhere there are „strategic developments“ i.e. „shove in houses to solve our current crisis this creating other crises in the future“.
It’s infuriating that we can’t at the very least attempt to learn from past mistakes and future proof more of our towns.
I’m not pro developer in any way but currently they are not engaged to consider more about the town than houses so why should they. The county councils continuously seem to drop the ball.
