At least one man is dead and police are searching for two armed men on Big Island Lake Cree Nation, CBC News has learned.
RCMP are telling people living on the First Nation near the Alberta border to find a safe location immediately and lock their doors. Those heading to the First Nation are being told to stay away.
The two assailants, who were armed with a gun, were last seen riding an ATV, the RCMP says.
Larry Wahpistikwan told CBC News that his son, Neil, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning.
“We came round dancing from Moon Lake and we were about to sleep when my brother called me and told me that my son got shot,” Wahpistikwan told CBC News. ”They killed him.”
Wahpistikwan says Mounties were already on scene and attempted CPR, but were unable to save his son’s life. Others were also shot and taken to hospital, he says.

Seven health-care facilities in the area have been put under lockdown as of 11 a.m. CST Tuesday, according to a statement from the Saskatchewan government.
„We are aware of the serious incident that occurred early this morning at Big Island Lake Cree Nation. Our thoughts are with the community and all those affected,“ the statement says.
RCMP has confirmed one person died in a shooting on the First nation and three others were injured. They have not yet confirmed the victim’s identity or released details about the shooting.
If they’re caught they will be immediately let out on bail and will barely serve any time because of „systemic oppression“ and „intergenerational trauma“ etc. Then more of their community members will die. We can thank liberal saviors for that nonsense.
I find it weird that the CBC didn’t put the shelter in place information in the headline, seems like that should be the most important information to communicate right now. Hopefully they can quickly catch them and no one else gets injured

It’s shocking the amount of violent crime on reserves. I wonder what the per capita rates are for on-reserve populations. I live in a hamlet of about 400 people that adjoins to a reservation. I’ve never heard of a murder in the history of the small hamlet, but in the 15 years I’ve lived here there have been 3 murders on reserve – never mind the violent crime otherwise.
