Non-humanoid robots already do most of the work in factories.

Are you kidding? I was sure humanoids handing out party favors was the key to ending poverty. Dang. So close.

Wife and I were commenting on this. „Humanoid“ makes humans more comfortable dealing with androids/robots easier in daily life. The overall design is inefficient for complex tasks. Balance / CG is always an issue. 3 or 4 leg units would be better than bipedal.

The software lags behind the hardware, if that weren’t the case then the hype would be warranted. These embedded AI systems don’t have sufficient real time world modelling or physics understanding to do fine motor tasks despite being able to do impractical things like backflips and Kung Fu. I know it’s being worked on but not sure if it will take a few years to make real progress or another decade.

It’s almost like the humanoid form is not the optimal form a being can take to do a ton of jobs.

You mean Musk? he’s been hyping his indian remote controlled bot for a while now.

Ok, hear me out, the answer to our problems is the Tachikoma from Ghost in the shell, but put a really fat ass on it, functional purpose driven front, and the back for the people who want to fuck the robot. I think the futurists and investors can see the benefits here.

I’m tired boss. I just don’t care about any of this. When people can barely afford cars (that have been around for 100+ years) there is a problem. When every company is run by and on AI slop, does it even matter anymore? A company putting out press releases daily about products some AI has slopped together, or products built by robots that were designed by robots for a populus that can’t even afford rent or health care. I just don’t get how out of touch these assholes are. No amount of Kool-aide could make this hellscape make sense.

A good sanity check when it comes to humanoid robots is to ask, „What is the battery life like?“ Power usage of humanoid robots is very high and tethering the robot with an umbilical cord gets rid of many of the benefits of a humanoid robot.
It’s notable every robotics company dodges this critical question because it quickly reveals how far away we are from humanoid robots seeing mass adoption. It’s also not an easy problem to solve without a massive jump forward in battery technology – a field which moves slowly.

I say give it a couple more years. We’ll see domestic robots doing house work. Right now they’re too slow and stupid.

[Who](https://futureoflife.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/elon_musk_royal_society.jpg) could possibly be creating all the hype?
That’s why it’s called hype.
Let me ask the real question – is it voiced by Alan Tudyk?
I’d rather an arm hanging on rails from the ceiling than a humanoid. Less complicated and probably way more reliable.
