How long until it crosses germany? 2-3 more years? The largest country by population should at least try to have the 3rd largest total gdp.

    That is so grim.

India has more than 10 times population of Japan.

    Horrible.

As an Indian (ethnically) it doesn’t matter too much. Yes, we are finally growing at a solid pace, but we still have a long, long way to go. We must keep this up for at least a decade or two.

Yeah that’s right, shit on us more! That will show us pesky Indians. … Seriously why are you guys like this when it comes to India. Can’t even have a single piece of good news.

Now let’s see their average life expectancy.

Use that money to clean up those cesspools that you call cities

As an Indian, this doesn’t make the slightest difference in our day to day lives. Vast majority of Indians are still living barely above the poverty line.

Nominal GDP only looks good on paper, GDP per capita is the real measure of how strong the economy is.

Even though per capita is low, higher GDP allows India more wriggle room to invest some of the tax rupees in interesting programs in space, military, and electronic manufacturing that will give India leverage in international relations.

Either the sub has utter garbage understanding of how gdp works, or thinks a country being richer and getting richer is a bad thing for some reason? Like Uhm hello, gdp per capita increases WITH the usual gdp so how does that come in. And wtf does any other problem, make the country being a lil richer not a good thing. As if ANY issue would simply be affected negatively by the country being richer.

  12. It makes sense. India has consistently shown one of the highest economic growth since 2020. Given brain drain is reversed by immigration restrictions in the west, and consequentially more investment and jobs following them, they have a bright future ahead.

Japan’s growth is hindered by the aging population. It’s so bad that the UK will be on track to surpass Japan in its economy. Japan will need measures to boost the birth rate way up, or lessen immigration restrictions.

  13. Ah shit here we go again with people either bringing up the per capita or giving back handed compliments.

Most richer countries mostly gained their wealth through colonization. Yes there are countries like China, Singapore, Korea vastly improved leaps and bounds beyond India due to their mainly homogeneous society.

A lot of people don’t realise India is not an easy nation to govern. There is so much diversity from language to culture to religion to politics. And we also missed the industrialization train. Yes, the progress is slow but we will get there. India is not a perfect country and never pretended to be.
