does this imply that the second movie is always worse than the first? is this significant? it’s impossible to see if there’s a trend from 2+ … i think you could do a lot more with this data.
for instance, what is the likelihood that movie n is better than movie n-1? is this significantly different for n = 2 compared to n = 3+?

I wonder whether ratings for the 2nd movie onwards are inflated because reviewers are self-selected. People that liked the first movie are more likely to watch the second, third, and so forth whereas people that rated the first movie poorly are not gonna watch the sequels anyway.

If the insight is how future sequels are rated relative to the initial , you could make this plot relative to the first rating (ie subtract the initial rating from the subsequent series).
Otherwise, it’s challenging for me to tease out something meaningful from this plot.

Sequels consistently make good money if the original was successful, that’s even if the reviews are poor. People like a brand and will watch it no matter what the reviews are. If a film is a hit then expect a sequel if at all possible and if they can they will roll out another x5 – *it’s all about money baby!*
