    1. TLDR;

      > A 101-year-old D-Day veteran awarded a British Empire Medal has said Britain today is „disappointing“ and that the country risked repeating mistakes made before World War Two.

      > „What’s disappointing is the antisemitism that I see everywhere, hear everywhere, or read,“ he said.

      > Mr Kersh arrived in Normandy aged 19, three days after the start of the D-Day invasion in June 1944. He served as a technical clerk for the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, organising vehicle support.
      >
      > He was later stationed near Bergen-Belsen when the camp was liberated by British troops in April 1945.

      > The veteran said he „absolutely“ sees comparisons between now and the period just before World War Two, and that Russia was „threatening the west“.

      > Mr Kersh compared today’s Western leaders to Neville Chamberlain, whose 1930s appeasement of Hitler failed, saying: „They think they’ve just got to hope and make speeches.“

      A bit late in the day to award this hero , isn’t it ? If he’d been an actor/singer/ reality star or politician, he would have had an award years ago, but Britain always treats ordinary people in a shabby manner. Still , we should heed this brave man’s warnings ( l salute you,Sir ).

      Old fella is pretty much on the money, he is not alone in his assessment others have pointed out Europe looks like it did in 1938 and again we are avoiding dealing with it and hoping something turns up to change the it. I can only hope that this time something does turn up to stop matters getting worse otherwise it could get very unpleasant very fast.

    4. This is someone who deserves an acknowledgment, it should never have taken this long.

      It’s kind of weird how on the issue of antisemitism in specific, the BBC is balls to the wall calling it out, which is fantastic since antisemitism is a big and bad issue

      But then the BBC takes a very antagonistic view of the struggle for trans rights and constantly celebrates anti-trans crusaders

      Shouldn’t we be calling out all bigotry, everywhere it emerges against groups too small to defend themselves from the onslaughts of larger?
