      Consumer tech began to fail when the OS level started implementing userspace applications into their core OS, sublimating the division and Sherlocking independent developers. They do this under the guise of „security“ but you can allow for userspace control and modification on top of a minimal operating system to expand the OS. Once you implement userspace applications into the core OS you begin locking down competition and limiting personalization for the user.

      OS makers changed from a model of „be the door to the digital universe“ to „be the arbiter and controller of the universe“. 

      They became the apps they were supposed to host, a winner-take-all mentality of marketshare and control

      Linux + Android and most problems are solved. Ik android is still a problem, but much better than before

      I found my wife’s iPod mini this morning and had a sad nostalgic memory of how much I used to get excited about new tech, whereas now I just try and avoid upgrading until have to as it’s an endless stream of disappointment.

      AI and such are great when welcomed and invited. I know coders can work far faster with AI, for instance, which is great!

      But I don’t need it rammed in as an always-on OS level spyware.

      I don’t understand why anyone would network their TV. I have a $100 netbook plugged into mine so I never have to deal with ads or malware that calls itself security

      But I NEED that TV screen INSIDE my fridge! I know it bumps the price a few hundred dollars but it’s worth it for all the free ads I can watch while I’m trying to find something to eat
