Blata l-Melħ has, as you might guess, many salt pans. It looks like workers would carry the salt down the steps to catch boats to transport it to Ġnejna.

My guy, you would’ve swum your way into becoming a statistic. I’m super appreciative of the post and photo, but even more so because you saw sense and didn’t swim.
Many of these Instagram famous locations are hard to reach and remote. Sea currents aren’t a joke and even experienced swimmers can struggle. Places like that, like Ras ir Raħeb, Selmun, etc. are all beautiful but if you’re in the water, you’re in trouble.
