Avatar must be the whole planets dirty secret. No one talks about them. No one brings up going to see them and they have no fan base. Yet consistently they hit the highest grossing movies lists. What a weird phenomenon.

    2. Glad to say I only watched the first movie at home after someone rented it

and have not seen 2 or 3

am not interested in these basic movies

but yeah 4 and 5 will for sure happen

Only thing special about them are the special effect

I’m surprised that the people that go to the movies aren’t the same ones posting on Reddit.

      Is the Internet a lie

Insane how well these movies do. This one had basically no hype. Nobody I know has seen it yet (and we all go to the movies often). That doesn’t really mean anything, but more it’s just impressive how this can reliably get a casual audience in the seats.

Final question that might reveal something. Whats the domestic vs worldwide gross?

its amazing that this movie has this type of BO numbers because its the exact type of film that should be dying at the BO…

i wasnt very impressed at all with the last Avatar and have little to NO desire at all to see this new one despite all the eye candy its supposed to provide

Well that guarantees 4 & 5. It mightn’t crack two billion this time, but it’s dead set to get past 1.5 you’d think.

    7. Saw it last night.

Not as good as the second one, but it had some surprisingly emotional moments.

It was about 20 minutes too long. And it had the ending was…let’s call it redundant

    8. Can I finally admit that as an artist I think these movies are fun as hell? The latter ones (once movie one set up the exposition and premise) are so character-centric in a way that I find somewhat refreshing in the modern cinema scene

It’s fun watching the kids be dumb. It’s relatable watching the parents stress out. The grief moments really get to me and the reimagining of Quaritch has been a genuine thrill (especially since Cameron employed the tried and true irl trope of a bigot finding himself a goth baddie with a coke addiction and jumping ship immediately)

Trying to navigate the colonialism message regarding violence and nonviolence and generational trauma the grey in-between is *wonderfully* messy

Also shoutout to all the creatures? PAYAKAN? Absolute goat. Idk there’s not many films where I’m rooting for a murder whale but here I am

It’s like we get to watch someone’s unique homebrew dnd campaign play out and that’s plenty entertaining to me

    9. Cameron already has 3 of the 5 top grossing films of all time, this might make it 4/5.

    10. Hey Americans, avatar is an anti colonial and anti American movie series. So your media does not talk about it as much as your other garbage movies. Cultural impact in your perspective is how often it’s on TV and not if people are actually watching the movies and talking about them

Instead of saying huh isn’t that weird maybe check your bias

The first one was pretty terrible and I had zero interest in ever seeing another one. Only person I know who went to see the new one is my uncle but he’s retired and needed something to do that day

I think people who have no imagination choose the movie as an easy family activity. They watch it, and forget about it. They dont trash it, because the „experience“.

Is there a breakdown of international vs US sales numbers. I know it performs exceptionally well in China and other markets

    14. And yet no memes, no cultural impact, nothing. I’ve seen more discussions of the costumes in Nolan’s unreleased Odyssesy this past two weeks, than any mention of any detail of the new Avatar film.

This series really got lucky that Star Wars has sorta gone down the gutter as a „cinema event“ over the last decade because it’s really the only franchise that’s branded as a must-see theater experience, which in turn keeps it box office viable

I genuinely really enjoy this franchise. The first didn’t grip me but I was also 8 when I saw it. Way of Water blew my socks off and really made me care about the characters.

Fire and ash continued that. It felt more like a part two of the second film, which isn’t a bad thing.

I really hope James decides to at least make a fourth and I wouldn’t be upset if a fifth came after that.
