Stupidest thing up until a director calling for a press conference about future Avatar movies.

Stick Cameron and Tarantino in a death match together please. Both these guys need to shut their traps as they continue to make huge assholes of themselves.

Says the guy who has dedicated decades of his life making shitty movies about blue aliens.

He’s right. There really are only two genuinely great Alien movies, and the rest have been mediocre at best. Killing off Newt and Hudson off screen showed that Fox had no clue how to continue the franchise. Even David Fincher has disowned Alien 3.
Edit: Shit. I meant Hicks. RIP Bill Paxton, though.

I gotta admit I agree.

Alien 3 was amazing
This guy clearly doesn’t understand the series

I am always shocked at the hate for alien 3. I have always been a huge fan of the franchise, saw 3 in theaters, thought it was a great twist(s), I still think it is.
It’s fueled by people thay just wanted to rehash the second movie over and over and over.

I’ve never seen nor do I have any interest in avatar. I’m happy this dude is living his best life making the art he wants to make…… but I’d rather watch the abyss again.
HouZ71 on
Is that the one about the Aliens?
Gtk05 on
Pretty sure the twist to Titanic 2 was the dumbest thing ever.

I mean yeah, it’s a pretty lukewarm take. Alien*3 has always been the worst one, even the guy who made it says it’s his biggest regret. I personally don’t blame fincher cause the studio made 4 different scripts weaver wanted out and the studio interfered in every step.

I’d rather watch Alien 3 every year for the rest of my life than watch another Avatar film.

Alien 3 could have used better writing and plot, but it’s an alright movie. As an Alien fan, I really only enjoy it for its weird, gritty 90s aesthetics.

I still like it better than Resurrection.

For someone who recently publicly bristled at people daring to criticize his work, James Cameron sure is on a tear against other creators.
The man can have a point without also being an insufferable hypocrite.

He gave his approval and was involved in Terminator: Dark Fate which pulled this exact same twist…
IceHound30 on
I agree but wasn’t Cameron supportive of the twist in Terminator Dark Fate? Which was essentially the same thing?
DJMhat on
Cameron hate so much here that Alien 3 (disowned by its own director David Fincher himself) is getting love here.
The twist was idiotic and soured the memory of Alien 2.
One may hate Avatar films but come on.

Cameron’s installment is highly overrated. I saw ALIENS and it was meh. Everyone speaks of it like it’s the greatest movie ever made. I disagree.

Alien 3 is the only one that looks and feels like a continuation of the first one, I said what I said.

He’s right, that movie is crap.

Would have been interesting to see what Vincent Ward cooked up with the wooden planet idea. At least that had some interesting ideas.

The Alien franchise as a whole has taken a stupid turn, even the second one isn’t immune to that, but he’s completely right about the third one.

I guess this week is just James Cameron thoughts and opinions week.

Man who traumatized Ed Harris to the extent he won’t talk about the filming of The Abyss to this day and who insisted on leaving the scene where they for real tortured an actual rat in the movie has opinions about the stuff other people do in their movies

I watched all 3 for the first time this year and he’s absolutely right. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie make so many bad decisions

As a stand alone movie it’s actually quite good. Entertaining. Well paced . Good acting.
As a continuation of the story / trilogy it was awful.
coldliketherockies on
It was quite lazy. And I say that as someone who otherwise enjoys alien 3 for what it is. But as a continuation of Aliens…. It’s frustrating as hell.
I also just don’t like horror/sci fi where a character survives so so so much just to be killed off in a dumb way like nothing. Especially when it’s built up along the way

Has he seen avatar 2?

Things I hope to leave behind in 2025: rich white men’s unwanted opinions. That’s it.
Edit to say: Idk if this is a recent comment, but if it is it’s probably because he’s pissed about Sigourney Weaver’s comment about scolding him on yelling at a young actress in Aliens.
Zapranoth07 on
Alien 3 was awful and heavy handed and soulless.
– I literally flipped off the screen with newt and hicks snuffing it during opening credits
– godawful electric guitar music video shaved head Ridley attempted rape scene
– terrible Ridley overdone crucifixion scene to end the movie
I could go on and on but I don’t wanna ever watch it again to remember it better
