They need to hope Mark Carney gets bored eventually and moves on. As long as the Liberals hold the centre the conservatives won’t get in. At least with Pierre at the helm.

I will say it again. The reason Canadian Conservatives hate Trump is not because of what he stands for, who he hates, and what he does, it’s because Trump’s election and the early days of his Presidency outed their own plans. The party had become absolutely enamored with Trump and the GOP, had been eagerly adopting Fox News talking points and importing as much of the Republican culture war as they could. Poilievre led this charge, and even where it was clear, such as on abortion, that he wanted to tack to the middle, his caucus is filled with social conservatives and their sympathizers, pining for the days when the gays were back in the closet, women were seen primarily for the reproductive status, minorities kept their mouths shut, and immigration favored bumping up the WASP population.

Progressives in Canada know/follow more about American politics than Canadian politics. Trump became the #1 election issue which is mind boggling. Next election the Liberals won’t have Trump to run against so will more likely have to defend their past 15 year record of running Canada’s economy.
