Remarkable change in position from 2022 where its gone from no ceasefire until all Russian troops leave Ukraine to now accepting loss of territory and wanting a ceasefire.
Of course the ceasefire being predicated on a future Ukrainian decision makes this an easy refusal from Russia.
Zelensky’s move is genius, agree to anything reasonable knowing that the Russians won’t. Nothing changes, but the Russians can’t deny being the obstructionists.
The Kremlin will say no.
In April 2022 in Istanbul, Kyiv agreed to negotiate, setting a ceasefire as a precondition first. Then it refused to continue negotiations, using the negotiation period for a military buildup.
So Ukraine has already played that trump card.
