Hallo zusammen! Mein Partner und ich hatten gerade ein wunderbares Heiligabendessen im Chama Mama in NYC. Wir bestellten die saisonale Leckerbissenplatte und eines der Desserts, die sie als „Kumeli“ aufgeführt haben, das absolut fantastisch war.
Das Googeln des Namens führt NULL zu Ergebnissen und führt zurück zur Speisekarte von Chama Mama. Wir fragten unsere Kellnerin und sie sagte sogar, sie komme aus Georgia und habe noch nie davon gehört, bis sie es auf die Speisekarte gesetzt hätten

I’ve never heard of “kumeli”
If you want a Christmas/new years treat it’s gozinaki for sure.
Churchkhela too but that’s also enjoyed outside new years but gozinaki is strictly new years

It’s traditional sweet from a very high mountain region of Tusheti

It says right there it is Kumeli („ქუმელი“), apparently a Tushetian traditional food. It’s not very common in other parts of Georgia.
It’s like the filling of Qada but mildly chewy. Truly a dessert for appreciating how bleak the life was in the mountains.
