Welp, it was the Russians themselves refusing a Christmas cheasefire. Reap what you sow and all that.
key could be: infrastructure to generate income formerly invested in by western banks, mainly by italy and germany in 1960’s and 70s, then as economic help after 1991 again (~€311bn), but used that income to attack the intermediate route thru/along which that income was supposed to flow. A) so income falls sharply B) re-build / re-investmentis is likely to fall flat too. So russia can very much end up being in worse crippled state than 1991.
Russia will be irrelevant in ten years. That, and death, is all Putin has accomplished.
