It’s kind of absurd that they’re acting like Etsy has access to the products. As if it’s Etsy’s inventory rather than the individual sellers.

I feel like Etsy advertises they are a marketplace of small independent artists. When in reality they are a marketplace of drop ship storefronts for cheap overseas products. I feel like their platform advertises itself like it’s a safe place to purchase from and it’s not.

Isn’t there a bill now about section 230?

if Etsy isn’t going to police the authenticity of the items, and they no longer are only handmade and vintage items then I have to question how itsy is any different than TEMU.

Is this why literally every store was advertising their cashmere (it’s even included in Black Friday deals!) this season?

Etsy is beyond gone now. It’s 99% cheap dropship garbage. I used to look for gifts on there all the time. Haven’t looked at the site in probably 3 years.
Time for that site to die off already.

Etsy used to be about hand made items. Then they changed with a private equity purchase. Now they are just a mass produced drop shipping setup for the majority of their products. There are a few hands made you can still find. Since then, they have gone straight down hill.

>As part of its industry activities, CCMI purchases products advertised as “cashmere” from various retail channels and sends them to laboratories for fiber‑content testing
I had no idea cashmere was taken this seriously.

I stopped using Etsy, might as well buy the same damn thing on Temu or Amazon.

Etsy has an interesting problem. They grew really really fast during Covid, and a lot of that growth is from people buying cheap Amazon junk.
As a business, it’s *really* hard to make the cut to what is a pretty big stream of revenue even when it doesn’t match your brand.
At the same time, all that business is destroying their brand.
Lots of people internally want to get rid of all the obvious foreign junk and scams. But business doesn’t want to gut all the growth they’ve seen.
