No world where I could support the US starting a war with Venezuela but Maduro is a violent autocrat working with Putin to fund the Ukrainian war by circumventing Russian oil sanctions.

The escalation is going to suck but I’m not mad about the blockade itself

Downvote away. If they’re going to ignore sanctions then that oil is genuinely better off blockaded by a would-be autocrat than it is funding the expansionist campaigns of *actual* autocrats. World steps closer to WWIII every day

    >WASHINGTON, Dec 24 (Reuters) – The White House has ordered U.S. military forces to focus almost exclusively on enforcing a „quarantine“ of Venezuelan oil for at least the next two months, a U.S. official told Reuters, indicating Washington is currently more interested in using economic rather than military means to pressure Caracas.
    >
    >“While military options still exist, the focus is to first use economic pressure by enforcing sanctions to reach the outcome the White House is looking (for),“ the official said on Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

    >While President Donald Trump has been publicly coy about his precise aims regarding Venezuela, he has privately pressured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to flee the nation, Reuters has reported. Trump said on Monday it would be smart for Maduro to leave power.
    >“The efforts so far have put tremendous pressure on Maduro, and the belief is that by late January, Venezuela will be facing an economic calamity unless it agrees to make significant concessions to the U.S.,“ the official said.

Trump making the US look like all foreign intervention has to do with demanding oil is the dream of anti-American dictators

Every single thread every single top comment was about how war was imminent.

Every single thread was me arguing how nothing pointed to Trump actually wanted any sort of risky, direct action because they didn’t have the forces for it and you don’t spend months throwing hollow threats if you actually intended to do something.

So there you have it, a risky free attempt at pressuring Maduro.

If it doesn’t work, he’ll just recall his forces eventually and pretend it never happened.

There is SO MUCH wrong with this but stopping the shadow fleet oil tankers is actually a really good idea. Most of those are going to Russia so they can fund their Ukraine invasion

Invading Venezuela to take their oil is obviously a totally different thing that I would not support

  6. I hate Trump as much as the next guy but I think this isn’t actually a bad move. TBH we should go after ALL shadow fleet boats to ensure Russia gets hit harder by this mess. But this is a start. Remember, a broke clock is still correct twice a day.

Imagine signing up for the military to serve your country and being forced to do international piracy while serving on the U.S.S Diddler.

  8. Imagine another country took over the Texas oil fields under the logic of quarantine.

As a MAGA American, how would you respond to that shit?

I’d dump it in the ocean if I was Venezuela. Or maybe light it on fire. No way I’d let someone steal it

As crappy as this is, it isn’t going to get worse when Trump targets Canada. They already have buddies in Canada to try and force a breakdown of our sovereignty….

  11. That can’t be, I just heard Trump say that America has the most oil of any country!

Someone got to Trump and made him realize that you can’t force regime change with air power alone.

And he won’t commit to a ground invasion.

So the massive military buildup in the area around Venezuela will amount to a big waste of time.

And that would be the best outcome.

Performative airstrikes wouldn’t force Maduro out of power.

  13. one thing about this regime they’ve let everyone know it’s about oil… black gold, texas tea
