if a person performs dangerous actions, then that person may be deemed, by virtue, a dangerous driver, and thus should have their driver’s license suspended immediately to ensure public safety.

Much like with the driver of a car, if you go drinking with someone who you know will get on a bicycle afterward, or if you serve alcohol to someone with a bike, you may face certain penalties for your involvement as well.

I foresee fewer cars on the road in the future

Honestly, its not worth riding a bike anymore just to avoid all the hassles that come with it. There are lots of laws and rules that are routinely broken by Japanese residents that I wouldn’t like trying my luck with as a very visibly foreign person.

忘年会/新年会 season on, there should be a good number of driving licenses being suspended. Well, that is if the police was serious. They are not.

“Getting a license suspended, however, is considered an administrative process and can take effect instantly. “

Wow! Go out for drinks on the weekend and wake up with no license to drive to work on Monday!!

Honestly Japan is just terrible for biking in general. Especially in the cities there will be people riding bikes swerving through herds of people.

I basically stopped drinking because its such a pain to drink and get back home. I live in the countryside, but even when I lived in the city I hated dealing with missing the last train etc.
