Since martial law may very well continue on past a ceasefire, this may be relevant even if the elections are not held until after the war.
I guarantee you Russia will attempt to interfere with the election.
Long overdue. This war will last a long time, and avoiding elections forever is not a solution.
Noooo… Don’t they see it’s a trap? If Zelenskyy wins, US and Russia will claim it was rigged, and it’s another nail in the coffin for US/right wing Europe support. Trump is just echoing what Russia wants – Zelenskyy gone. He doesn’t care that Russia has had Putin for so many years when calling Ukraine un-democratic, because he would like to do the same.
And how will the occupied territories vote? With a Russian gun to their head?
Zelensky says he can’t do elections with martial law -> Trump says he has to do it -> Zelensky proceeds to bluff everyone saying he will draft law and do elections under „security guarantees“ and blahblah knowing this is all bullshit and will not happen.
