**In Brief:**
* Canada will scrap a border entry program next year that made it easy for thousands of people annually, predominantly Americans, to travel into remote areas of Ontario and Manitoba without having to report to a customs checkpoint.
* Starting next September, those people will have to trek to one of those border stations or use one of the yet-to-be-established designated telephone reporting sites when entering Canada.
* Through the Remote Area Border Program (RABC), the Canada Border Service agency issued annual permits allowing pre-approved Canadian and U.S. residents to freely cross the border in five remote and sparsely populated areas.
* The program “historically” attracts about 11,000 members annually, according to CBSA, 90% of whom are Americans. Some U.S. politicians have expressed concern about the impending change.
Why are we scrapping the program? Were there concerns about it causing problems?
How are all the handguns and blow supposed to get here now?
Going to suck even more to live in the NW Angle
This seems short sighted. We DO want the Americans to come to Canada to spend money. Remote hunting and fishing brings in a lot of dollars. I guess since it’s not Toronto, it doesn’t matter.
Sounds like it will largely affect magas, therefore we can hope the process is extremely inconvenient.
When can we start those “Build That Wall” chants with the promise the US will pay for it?
