    1. > “Amy Poehler’s remark was an ignorant dig, at an event which is supposed to be a celebration of cinema and filmmakers, not a roast,” Cameron now told The Times. “I’m pretty thick-skinned, and happy to be the butt of a good-natured joke, but that went too far. The fact that people found it funny shows exactly what they think of me, even though they have no idea who I am or how I work.”

      > Cameron noted Hollywood pit the two directors against each other during the 2009-2010 awards season as “Avatar” faced off against “The Hurt Locker” at various events, including the Oscars. Bigelow prevailed over Cameron to win the Oscar for best director, while “The Hurt Locker” also won best picture.

      > “I was the first one on my feet applauding,” Cameron noted about when Bigelow won the Oscar over for him. “Kathryn and I thought the whole meta-narrative around us was pretty funny. I was a little concerned that it would just take away from her credibility as a filmmaker. It started to turn into a conversation that wasn’t about her film, and that bothered both of us.”

      >“When it comes to torture. I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron.”

*That’s* the joke he’s upset about 12 years later?

I think most people have sort of memory-holed the controversy surrounding that joke. The movie (Zero Dark Theory) heavily implied torture (or what was shamelessly referred to as enhanced interrogation techniques) led to the assassination of Osama bin Laden. Many people, including politicians, journalists and even people working in the counter terrorism community pushed back HARD on that saying it was horseshit and that old fashioned intelligence gathering was how he was eventually found.

It was a shitty joke but not necessarily for the reason Cameron implied. Although I sympathize with him and would imagine a joke made about a demanding female auteur wouldn’t go down that well with that crowd.

James Cameron ruined two marriages because he couldn’t keep his dick in his pants (admitted it repeatedly) so he can just sit there and take it.

Well I guess Amy Poehler is joining Ben Affleck in the „Never-Be-Cast-in-a-James-Cameron-Movie“ club

He’s now claiming he is responsible for Point Break. Dude just is insufferable and small. His ex is actually a good director and he is just coming across as “old man yells at clouds”

    7. Did the interviewer bring this up, or did he just blurt it out? Big difference between him answering a question versus him revealing this moment has been living rent-free in his head for more than a decade.

    8. James Cameron proving Amy right by being an insufferable, thin skinned egomaniac narcissist.

I remember hearing that joke for the first time like it was yesterday. I roared with laughter. The 3 Tina & Amy GG monologues are iconic. You don’t hear George Clooney crying over them joking how he’d rather float off into space and die than spend 5 more minutes with a woman his own age 🤣

    10. Lol everyone forgot about that and couldn’t care less, and now it’s front page reddit material with laughs all around, good one Jimbo

If James Cameron knew what a joke was he wouldn’t have spent 10 something years making Avatar movies.

The openings of the Tina/Amy era of hosting the Globes are some of the best-written and laugh out loud funny things they have ever done. There is a comp of all three show openings on YouTube, I’ve probably watched a dozen times. James is a great filmmaker, but if Scorcese could chuckle at the jokes directed at him, then James could probably take a deep breath and chill. Everybody was laughing and having a good time. Even Tarantino laughed at the joke thrown at him.

It was quite funny how James Cameron was seated close behind Kathryn Bigelow at that year’s Oscars ceremony.

He had to see her get up like 3 or 4 times that night to win an Oscar in a category that he was also nominated in.

I wonder if that seating arrangement was deliberate, or just happenstance.

    14. If you’re gonna be mean be funny and that was funny enough to be as mean as it was.

I’d rather have another season of Parks and Rec than another Avatar movie.

Surely he should be more offended by his body of work post 2000.

As much as I appreciate Cameron’s passion for film, technology, and storytelling, he’s kinda like Mel Gibson in that most times when I hear him speak or read his words, he’s insufferable. He got to build a nice, luxurious ego-bubble for himself decades ago, and he’s basically exploring the Mariana Trench in a little mechanical egg all the goddamn time, so to speak. What a strange dude!

Been a billionaire for 10 minutes and already airing out every time he feels he’s been wronged by the world.

    19. James Cameron has made some of the greatest films ever, but I get the sense that he’s pretty full of himself.

    20. Men are so emotional. He should let the women work and he can do his art things.

Oh boo fucking hoo Cameron. Amy Poehler is an absolutely perfect humam being.

Uh, citation needed? Cameron always comes across as though he CANNOT take a joke, no matter who is making it lol

Guys, he just had a movie come out. This is just him getting some free press.

    24. Mysterious-Call-245 on

Not saying it was a good joke, but I am saying he seems thin skinned and self absorbed

    25. Part of the unwritten agreement of Hollywood award shows is yea well pat you on the back and give you golden statue awards but in turn you should be a good sport about some roast comedy
