Working at country level isn’t doing you any favours here: The Asian part of Russia should be green, as should French Guiana.

    2. „Sphere of influence“ is vague enough for the entire world to be included, I’d say. Japan was definitely influenced by European powers, even if they never had a proper unequal relationship forced on them (which is what that category means, if I had to guess). And Siam was invaded several times, they just didn’t lose their core

    3. Anatolia was definitely 100% controlled by Europe, the Roman Empire made sure of that

Many of these countries formed after europeans left or after they were kicked out so it would be appropriate to use a map with 17th century borders

Japan was partly under European control and influence by the Portuguese

What’s the difference between ‚controlled‘, ‚partially controlled‘, and ’sphere of influence‘? Like, the 1941 invasion and occupation of Iran counts sphere of influence‘ but not ‚controlled“? Or the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan?

I think you would struggle to find a single country that never had any shred of European influence anywhere, at any time, ever

I hate how sloppy this sub has grown, it used to actually be good instead of pointless. You may as well make a map of “countries where people drink water” or “countries where people breathe” and it’d be just as inclusive as this

80% of what you call Russia is just a colonial empire that didn’t completely dissolve yet

Why is the north of Somalia not green. Somalia was also colonized by the British and the Italians.

    10. North Korea was occupied by Russia from 1945-48 so should technically be marked green.

What’s really the point of this map? To impose a difference between Europe and the rest of the world, some sort of superiority? What connects Portuguese colonisation and… Slovakia? Or Montenegro?

    13. North Korea has been under European (Russian) influence too, given that Russia is European (Not to mention that Communism came from Europe).

Turkey’s the wrong color considering ALL of that was part of the Roman empire at one point.

you could technically count liberia because it was colonized by europeANS, but not a european country.

What a shitty map. Who knew Europe extended all the way to Manchuria…

    17. Anatolia was completely controlled by the Roman empire.

Europeans sailed to Japan in the 16th century and were a big enough influence to introduce Christianity to the island and they sold gunpowder weapons to the Japanese. I’d definitely add them to the sphere of influence thing.

Other than that looks good I’d say. Western civilisation is cool isn’t it?

Argentina was under partial control since Patagonia was never under Spain domain.

    19. Ethiopia was only under direct Itallian rule for less than a decade. Not sure I’d colour it green.

Siberia Is also and asian colonized territory by Russia, China will take It back along this century i think
