      Ugh as a Canadian im not interested in any way in making deals with the US right now. We ‚might‘ consider it in 3 years but for now I think its better they forget about us for a while.

      Dairy’s a redline. It’s like our banking system – we get through global economic crises because we don’t make those mistakes. I’m willing to pay more for milk and eggs than I used to so that I don’t have to pay what my friends to the south pay.

      We banned their alcohol in most provinces and are bankrupting some of their alcohol suppliers. Tourism sectors are hurting heavily in the US. What American business do we put out of business next?

      If we lose our dairy industry, what’s to keep Trump from flip flopping and putting tariffs back on? He broke the last agreement he signed.

      Losing supply management is not something we can easily reverse.

      And the idea that american tech and media companies have it hard up here lmao. They’re doing just fine.

      Liquor is entirely under provincial purview. The federal goverment cannot make this promise, they can just try to strong-arm provinces to play ball. I also think that the the US vastly overestimates availability. Even on the shelves, there are a lot of people that won’t buy it anymore. They can expect to get some business back, but not all of it. Considerably less I would imagine.

      Here is the deal lift off every tariff imposed, and AFTER IT might be considered.

      Honestly, it might be rough on the edge a little bit right now, but this is the kick in the ass canada needed to open up more tonother market and have trade agreement aigned around the world. This is opening out market, canadian stand united more than ever (pretty much all quebecers too feel part of the gang now) it’s a wonderfull and beautiful time to be canadian.

      If they get rid of Softwood duties, Aluminum duties, and all other punitive measures against Canadian trade, maybe we can talk. Not a fan of losing the ability to feed ourselves to American mega corps using all kinds of chemicals. Prefer to reduce our dependency on US and have a healthy separation with benefits.

      Canada income, housing, job security etc has slowly started to tick up from these tarrifs unlike the US, Canada is better off without the US.

      Their dairy and eggs have been here for years, we just don’t want them to flood the market and ruin our industries. Bring anything thing you want here,just slap a big American flag on the front so we know what we’re avoiding.

      What exactly is this “free trade” we are so concerned about losing? Nearly everything that I’ve bought from the US lately has additional tariffs and import fees added, and like many Canadians that has inspired me to buy Canadian.

      The US is committing economic terrorism and we don’t negotiate with terrorists.

      I think this is a great take.

      Especially with the assessment by our Prime Minister that a Trump goal is to make Canada dependent upon America, the hope they can break our dairy import restrictions, dump, put our dairy out of business and then control our food supply.

      If Trump were to get his way and Canada drop tariffs on dairy a great deal of your cart would be American.

      There is the occasional Canadian who shits all over supply side dairy management without acknowledging that US govt farm subsidies to dairy are stupendous. All Trump wants to be able to do is obtain access to our market so large US dairy can dump, drive our producers out of business, take over the market and then jack up prices.

      Any Canadian politician who suggests we drop our dairy protections so that we can save a bit on milk, never mind the much lower quality, deserves to be kicked to the curb.

      But Canada will not fall for this. I think as we get closer to the mid terms Trump’s team will get more strident in their attacks on Canada in order to attempt to pry out a „win“ to assist their election goals. So we in Canada have to stay strong!

      I personally feel while we should negotiate in good faith we are best not to commit to anything until after the midterms. And never surrender our food security just so we can save 50 cents in return for some lower quality American dairy imports.

      As an American I can say with all honesty, we are lying and the best course of action Canada can do is wait for the orange pedo to die.

      Canadian here. We should let the agreement with the US expire and wait to negotiate anything new until there is a government in place in the US that negotiates in good faith. Canada will be fine until then.
