Well, well, well. Kentucky. It seems you literally voted to pour your own whiskey down the drain.
Also, you continue to be stubborn and vote against your own state.
What do you say about that Kentucky 7?
But I guess its ok because those filthy Canadians aren’t coming across the boarder any longer.

As a Canadian I am tempted to smirk a little but can’t because this is a reminder that Trump’s trade insanity is hurting innocent workers on both sides of the border. I take no pleasure in knowing that these distillery workers will lose their jobs, at least for a while, for the same stupid reason that thousands of steel, auto and forestry workers are unemployed in Canada. Trump tariff taxes. The sad thing is that I have serious doubt that the boycott and ensuing layoffs will work because Donald Trump evidently does not give a shit and is too far into his dementia haze to realize he is destroying the United States. It will only get worse in the coming months as the CUSMA (or USMCA) trade agreement comes up for renewal and Trump decides that threatening it will also improve the U.S. economy. It won’t folks.

Karma, karma, karma.
Remember when Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell:
1. Held up a Supreme Court nominee under a Democratic President and then sped up another one while a Republican was President.
2. Led Republicans to vote no on impeaching Trump in his first term
3. Influenced the Citizens United ruling that led to unlimited campaign finance spending
4. Many more that I can’t remember, but Pepperidge Farm does.

Wagnerfax on
If this distillery shutdown happens, it is not some abstract culture-war victory lap. The Jim Beam facility employs about 816 people. Those jobs sit squarely in Bullitt County and many of those workers live nearby.
In the 2024 presidential election, Bullitt County voted about 75% for Trump/Vance and about 24% for Harris/Walz. Translation: a strong majority of the local electorate supported the candidate whose tariff policies and trade posture are now directly hurting bourbon exports, including $43M in sales to Canada.
So when people say Kentucky voted against its own interests, this is what they mean in practical terms. The economic fallout does not land on politicians or pundits. It lands on the 816 employees, their families, and the local businesses that depend on that payroll. You can argue values or party loyalty all day, but tariffs do not care who you voted for once the export numbers collapse.

If you go to Scotland, and you go to the distilleries, and you walk through any of the many warehouses full of aging scotch whisky- you will find 10s of thousands of barrels stamped with JIM BEAM. And you may think to yourself ‚WTF‘, and you would be right to do so.
The Reason- American Bourbon Whiskey laws state that distilled spirit must first new wood barrels. Meaning that every drop of American whiskey first sat in a brand spanking new oak barrel. This law came from Big Barrel who wanted to ensure they always had clients needing big orders of those sweet sweet oak barrels. The problem is that there then became glut of Oak barrels that couldn’t be used again. So they started selling them to other whisky makers across the pond where there is no rule about new barrels. You can find all sorts of spirits and wines being aged in Jim Beam barrels. As one of the largest producers, they generated veritable Butt Load of barrels (A Butt is a type of barrel ≈ 477 L)
