Linking public protests to a terror attack with zero evidence is a pretty convenient way to shut down dissent. Funny how “public safety” always seems to mean “no protests we don’t like.”

Rather than admit radical Islamist ideology with the shooters directly having been inspired by ISIS is problematic, they would prefer to shut down all protests. Makes sense. /s
If there are people crossing a line with their protesting, you shut THAT down. You don’t ban protesting altogether.
How can public safety be maintained without unduly restricting fundamental freedoms? How can a specific problematic element within society be addressed while preserving those freedoms for everyone else?
Existing laws have generally proven effective in protecting Australians from a wide range of threats, yet they appear less effective in addressing Islamism. While reducing freedoms (such as restricting peaceful protest) does grant authorities greater control, and potentially greater capacity to manage such threats, it also risks weakening foundational Western values, which ironically is a stated Islamist goal.
Do we have a coherent answer to this tension? And if not, are we being forced to choose between the ability to maintain a safe society for Jews and the preservation of core Western liberal principles?
This is how freedom dies.
I’m sure Israel starving innocent people in Gaza and completely destroying the place had a little something to with it? No. It’s the antisemitic Australians who are to blame, of course.
This is an overreaction.
Letting terrorists win.
finally you have to be an idiot to realise those „protests“ didnt cause this
i don’t think banning all protests is good though but some of these pro Palestine events were just straight up jihadi stuff
Australia has a tendency to overreact in crisis situations. They went way too far with Covid restrictions during the pandemic, and now this.
This was an absolutely tragic event that happened at Bondi Beach. But effectively banning protests statewide isn’t the solution either. (I do support their gun buyback however)
And ofc the left doesn’t report that they were CELEBRATING OCT 7 AND CALLING FOR JEWS TO BE GASSED.
So banning protests and banning even more guns at the same time eh.
Curious.
