„Now we have a simple choice. Money today or blood tomorrow. And I’m not just talking about Ukraine. I’m talking about the EU. And this is a decision that rests with us alone. I think all European leaders must finally seize this opportunity,“ Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said upon his arrival at the EU leaders‘ summit.
At the summit, the 27 leaders will also address the issue of the use of immobilized Russian assets. „The European Council calls on the European Parliament to urgently adopt the instruments available under the Reparation Loans,“ the text states. According to several European sources, this is a preliminary text, which the leaders will have to greenlight, and it is expected that unanimity will not be reached on the use of the assets.
„The Commission has presented several options. We have worked very well, especially on one of them, which enjoys broad support in the European Council. We will never leave this Council without a final decision to secure Ukraine’s financing needs for 2026 and 2027,“ said European Council President Antonio Costa.
Russia won’t go to war with us over money. They will go to war over land. Using that money is one step closer to them not coming for our land imo.
I hope Europe can be united on this. I really hope so.

What? Whether money today or later, blood will continue to spill? If you are going to use some fancy words to shape public opinion, at least make it make sense.
Russia is not the only problem. If Europe loses credibility, then investors from around the world including US and Asia will refrain from investing money in European soil.
We don’t want to do that for a few billions.

One thing nobody seems to discuss is how this will affect internet rates. Basically those 158 billion will cost us a trillion or more in future bond interest
Are we in EU that daft thinking that money is what gets shit done? Assets are worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them and money is worthless in battlefield, so it would just create revenue to basically exchange them for other things. Money does not do anything, people do…for money.
This is what most of the west do not get – Russian political elite does not care about the money, but they know that the global west do and is easily corruptible. They embezzle from their own country and buy off strategical people in the EU, life changing amount of money for loyalty and blackmailing is the leash. It is used as a tool, exactly what it is meant to be, we gave it them ourselves.
Liquidating them is just recouping the losses. Cash is worthless when your land is on fire and people are gone.
All those headlines are annoying … will we go ? or won’t we go ? „blame Belgium !“ ? „but we won’t guarantee it for Belgium“ ? „that’s complicated“ ?

This money is 36€ per CEE citizen > 26y that is not poor .. in one shot .. if it can be invested through several years it’s even less per year..
that’s what it costs … why won’t europe build a way to get this money with a specific „eu bound“… or postpone less important investments, let people invests in this with return interests (per country).. etc ..
Use „that“ money with „russian assests“ only as „guarantee“ (if an only if assets can be seized with justice decision) .. in case of justice decision that’s „free money“ .. else it’s an investment .. i’m sure most people would pay for that instead of loosing military personnel or worse
