Holy shit, that article paints a bleak picture. Think of Cuba what you want, but the people deserve better.

No better example of the cruelty of the American empire than Cuba. Iraq reveals the inherent violence of it all, but using force to incite a reaction that can be used as justification for further aggression is a tried and true imperial tactic because it shifts some of the onus elsewhere.

Cuba’s greatest crime was nationalizing some industries and not letting certain sectors of the American economy use them as a de facto colony any more. And because of this, they have been subjected to over half a century of economic warfare, leading to the staggering amount of suffering that this article demonstrates only a small sliver of.

There is no valid moral framework that puts the misdeeds of any other polity in the world today anywhere close to what the US has done in just this century, let alone the sins of decades further past that continue to fester, like Cuba.
