The EU can stick their regulations up their ass, I’m gonna start burning tires every day to feed the trees CO2.
This is a big compromise. Cleaner future, but still some room for combustion tech to survive.
In a world with US, Russia, India, China and the Saudis, even banning cars entirely won’t save shit.
In some sense this is useless because a brand new car may meet the low emission standards however an older/used car, a car that has been modified, or a luxury high powered car with a large engine will never meet the 90% emission reduction requirement and the national governments or the EU governmwent are not doing anything about this.
I am from Lithuania and the number of cars on the roads that I see spewing thick black smoke are countless and it’s not just the private owners, the local utility company in my town still uses russian Zil trucks from 1990s!
Well 90% emission reduction is simply not possible. I bet most ecological measures will be slowly stopped in the future.
EVs have one huge problem – they are desirable only when government subsidize them.
Very pragmatic of the EU. ICE vehicles are doomed. By 2035 few will want to buy them so why waste time and energy on a ban that will come through market forces?
How will this new energy be produced? By taking up even more agricultural land? Or from planted forests such as the Landes in France?
Just a simple question.
Oh I hope the 90% reduction will come from hybrids, with full nonsense 1 L/100km advertised fuel consumption, but will never ever be charged…

Does this mean that the total emissions of the cars they sell must go down, not the emissions of each individual car? So they could still sell a fairly polluting ICE car as long as they also sell 10 EVs. That seems reasonable to me: Leaves some room for exceptions and ICE fanatics while still achieving emissions reductions.
Yet they completely ignore how the cars are made and what kind of pollution each makes. For example, have you ever wondered why the wheels of a car keep getting that black thick ‚dust‘ on them?
Yeah, that’s from the brake plates, and it’s the one responsible for >90% of the actual harmful pollution (i.e cancers of the lung, other serious breathing issues).
Sure, more CO2 all of a sudden isn’t great, but CO2 in itself isn’t toxic in the quantities we could possibly produce. Remember, the earth had 10 times more CO2 in the past and life thrived. It’s less about how much of it is there and more about how sudden it appears.
Also, the manufacturing process of a car itself – toxic and polluting as fuck.
…and then there’s the issue of batteries.
Go YouTube: ‚chile lead mines‘ or ‚africa cobalt mines‘ – first one leads to entire towns being retarded (in the literal sense of the word, due to lead poisoning in early childhood) and the second one, well – it’s just awful all around.
So no, reducing ‚emissions‘ that come out of the exhaust won’t automagically solve jack shit. In fact, it’s only going to make things worse, indirectly – because we’re sidestepping and ignoring the actual problems while feeling good about it.
In 20-odd years, we won’t have a car industry anymore?
