As an Italian I’m gladly in favor of a European federation 🇪🇺

In Spain it’s already a majority. And it probably could be more with actual campaigning.

I don’t think this result would hold if they did an actual poll of hundreds of thousands of people.

It’s impressive how this sub spins the title to always look positive when it comes to federalization. Not supporting federalization doesn’t mean they want to destroy the EU.

„majority of Italy does NOT support a federal Europe“

Let’s be honest: I appreciate the positive attitude. But nearly half is not enough. People too easily fall for the misinformation the right has been planting against the EU for decades. The whole debate is so dishonest, it isn’t even possible to discuss the real shortcomings of the institution. And that alone will make things worse.
Let’s just hope the right wing doesn’t have the will power and ambition to do what they are doing in the US. I’m pessimistic though. If those who will succeed Meloni have the same attitude like the Heritage Foundation, Italy’s democracy will be dismantled even quicker than the USs‘. And then we’ll not discuss federalizing EU, but if the Italian nation state has any future.

I wonder if it would made any change if this federalized Europe would be called Roman Empire/Republic.

I do fear we kind’ve have to. We need to be strong, and united in these times. As if not, we may end up american & russian sattelite states.

This should be discussed more. Yugoslavia failed to federalize and look where it ended. Europe has a nice chance for a fresh start with this.

It really depends on what federalizing means, doesn’t it? If it’s actually democratic, with stronger, more competent institutions than our countries and definitely not governed like the current EU, I think a lot of people would be in favor of it.
I believe the main hold up is how the EU is currently governed, how much lobbyism there is, how opaque and undemocratic the processes are. We absolutely cannot have a federal government like that.

I mean, I’m pro EU. But I don’t want a federal Europe. Why is this being pushed so hard on this sub, to the point of spinning the story as OP did with this graph?

When you live in an echo chamber you play with your own mind to make sense of the information that doesn’t confirm your bias. This one definitely says more than half of Italians do not want into it.

And nearly half is on board for no i also wouldnt want to make it THAT CLOSE i dont like eu ideas like chat control and i dont want to deal with them

EU is already a federation in that sense. Just putting a fancy name and rebranding it as „federation“ won’t do anything more.

Yeah, but the problem with that question is what is a federal europe. Neither the people who are against it nor the people who are for it know what they are opposing or advocating, because no plans or actual ideas even exist. The question is academic at this point.

Politicians like Salvini have been blaming UE for every economical problem for a long time now. The unfortunate consequence is that a lot of people is convinced that less EU—> better Italy

Ask the question again but with the detail that each region would become a state of this federal Europe instead of Italy as a whole
Darkone539 on
Even the people who support it drop their support when the questions become more specific. This is borderline propaganda with a title like that.
This sub is so weird.

If you told Italians that this would take away power from the state and give more power to regional governments the percentage would climb to 80% or something
