      Perfect solution, give Russia Florida and Texas and Ukraine keeps Donbas. Only losers are Russia.

      Then you’d also need to imagine that the US has no control any more over those regions, most Americans have fled the area, and it would take a lot of lives and material to take the regions back.

      Except a large part of that is already in Russian hands and trading land for peace is an extremely common thing throughout history.

      1. Pretending like they are being asked to hand over all of Donbass when they control about 5,000 sq km out of a total of 52,000.
      2. Trying to use percentages of total land mass and picking some of the most populous states in order to make it seem like the concession is anything like Texas and Florida combined is insane.

      The problem is not in this 8,8% or whatever territory. The problem is that if the war continues Ukraine is about to lose all left bank (~40% of territory). This is a strong proposal for the country stop existing. Left bank goes to Russia, Galicia to Poland, Transcarpathia to Hungary, small thing left in the centre serves for the purpose of dumping insane debt accumulated since 2022.

      Bad analogy and I don’t think Russia has any right to just take the Donbas, but I would have no problem losing Florida and Texas. In fact, please make them leave.

      Actually, it’s Donbass plus Crimea, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, so about 22.5% of the total territory (52,000sq mi). That would actually stretch from Alabama to California.

      This is such a disingenuous take for two reasons: Russia already controls all of Luhanks and more than 80% of Donetsk. There are few civilians left in Donetsk due to it being so war ravaged, and by using a % comparison it implies that if US and Russia were to go to war that they would take land equivalent to Florida and Texas, which doesn’t make sense.

      That land is destroyed and bombed to shit, if Ukraine can get a peace deal out of it with security guarantees they should take the deal. They’ve had 4 years to get it back and have reclaimed zero settlements/cities/strategic positions in that area, what are they waiting for?

      As we are being fictional: They can have those red states that a) voted for the tangerine menace and b) they suck funds away from the rest of the country anyway and contribute very little to wellbeing of US citizens.

      The choices are this: cede territory and people stop dying. Fight for Ukrainian territorial integrity and the war drags on for years. Ukraine can only win if a third party steps in on their behalf. If that happens the war escalates and drags all of Europe down. Shitty choices either way. Personally, I’d choose saving lives but I understand how people don’t want to yield anything to Putin.

      The comment section is the reason lot of people voted right wing parties, there are so many traitors in america because of spending time online and virtue signalling. If you want go to war with those countries, that how borders are drawn, how do you think present countries are born, if you can’t protect your region then you leave it, that’s why countries have millitary or Have alliance with countries and have NATO, ukraine is not NATO, Texas and Florida are more important than bunch of Russians and Ukrainians.
