  1. This is classic Trump-era trade policy. The tech deal wasn’t a standalone partnership but another bargaining chip. Washington is using it to get what it wants on other fronts, like digital taxes and agriculture.

  2. „U.S. officials were becoming increasingly frustrated with Britain’s lack of willingness to address so-called non-tariff barriers, including rules and regulations governing food and industrial goods“

Also Trump : I tarriff everything all the time for whatever reason ESPECIALLY when I feel wronged.

  3. AbaddonTourist on

The British were idiots when they caved into Trump and signed a deal. Obviously he was going to go back on it.

  4. Past_Key_1054 on

Who could have foreseen this outcome?

Oh yeah, literally everyone with a half-functioning brain.

How many times will he pull the same bait-and-switch bullshit before it’s realised, Trump can’t be dealt with in good faith.

SO USA break another contract trying to bully people with lies and promises he never plans to keep.

Seems like the world is learning that USA is a toxic place where you can’t expect civil behaviour or for people to honour contracts.

    >Both countries agreed the „Tech Prosperity Deal“ over artificial intelligence, quantum computing and civil nuclear energy **during Trump’s visit to Britain in September.**

I guess the ink was dry, but

it only took 2-3 months to break their word on a partnership.

  6. Cynical_Classicist on

So much for the fascist being a friend to Britain! He just wants us to dance to his tune!

  7. Living_the_Limit on

Can’t believe how unreliable the US has become. You just can’t trust them at their word anymore.

  8. Civil-Dinner on

It’s sad knowing that years of trust our traditional allies had in the word of the US has been tossed in the garbage in the space of a few months.

This is the kind of damage that is going to take decades to repair, if it ever is.

    1. Trump doesnt understand that deals negotiations on that scale takes years

    2. I have no idea why investments of private companies are part of government-to-government deals. Its not like Trump has any power to lets say – make Microsoft invest in South Sudan.

  10. NothingStreet4251 on

Uk standing their ground supporting Ukraine. This is Trump supposedly not putting pressure on countries by withdrawing agreements as leverage.
He’d do better putting that pressure on the one who’s in the wrong!.

  11. PoodleIlluminati on

If you don’t think this is tied to his BBC lawsuit then you haven’t been paying attention.

The underlying deal is for the government to pressure the BBC, who then pay Trump directly. Then a “new” government deal will be announced. It’s the new out in the open influence peddling model.

  12. So…. the ally which followed us in (i guess all) the imaginated (for oil) and unimaginated wars, we leave him aside. Impose tariffs on him. Cancel future technology deals. But.. we give latest AI chips to China. Noice! Very very noice! Well done Mr Trump! In your unfathomable wisdom, you are doing what Russia combined with China and a whole lot of the middle east couldn’t in 50 years! This deserves an award! The Peace by Peace (destruction of the civilized world) prize! And you are the first recipient! Hail Trump! Long live the 4th Trumpch!

  13. The simple fact is you cannot make a deal with the USA currently.

They break, pause or try to alter it the next day.

Oh my god I am so sick of these fuckers, get us back in with the Europeans like we should have always been. Special relationship my arse.

  15. Right so this is just further proof that negotiating with the current trump administration is pointless, right? Deal agreed to three months ago and already thrown away.

  16. Forsaken-Original-28 on

If we didn’t share a language I suspect we would have a great deal less to do with them. We should ensure the next generation of British kids speak either French/Spanish/German fluently.

  17. Chemical-Drawer852 on

When do european countries finally admit that the US is no longer a partner but a straight up antagonist.

  18. It’s like the US doesn’t understand that it’s just making itself irrelevant.

  19. railroad-dreams on

Unintended consequences will be other countries building up their tech industry to avoid being bullied like this

  20. kristospherein on

This is what will happen with this administration’s security „guarantee.“ Nothing they do, say, or write on paper is worth a damn.

  21. AccountNumeroThree on

He’s going to end up messing up my trip to London in April, isn’t he? Do I need to order Canada pins to hide behind while we’re there?

  22. JustOneTwoThree4 on

The US under Trump is as trustworthy as Russia under Putin. Total coincidence.

  23. TheBoringProtagonist on

Might as well stab one of our closest allies in the back for no reason. I’m sure that will result in a better deal. We should definitely establish a precedent that even if you’ve bled next to us on the battlefield in every major war for the last hundred years, we’ll still view our relationship with you as purely transactional.

  24. mr_evilweed on

At this point I’m not really sure why any country would want to form any kind of agreement with America because we’re just going to pull out of it.

  25. And the US is surprised that Canada is re-thinking the F-35 deal. Those Swedish Gripen fighter jets are looking pretty damned good right now.

  26. Emergency_Link7328 on

The special friendship that keeps on giving.

The UK needs to return to the EU, before the Americans eat it alive.

  27. The UK is not taking shit from Russia and providing and source of resistance against them in Europe.

More evidence that the white house is really the Red House now

  28. I wish the rest of thw world could move on without us technology dependancy. Fuck microsoft and fuck google.

  29. willusiontheking on

Imagine Ukraine agreeing to the demilitarized zone only for Russia to continue to invade and the US demanding for more resources or concessions in exchange for the security guarantees to actually be put in effect due to the „nature of the situation“ 🙄 This administration is making us look like a joke to the world. 😑

  30. Silent-Ad-756 on

    Good.

It would have been in their favour anyway, and would probably be used against us as leverage in future.

  31. navinjohnsonn on

Face it America, we don’t want your food stuffs as it’s detrimental to health!!!

  32. StrangeDeal8252 on

This was always a deal that didn’t really benefit the UK in any real way, so no loss there.

But the fact that this is so clearly linked to his BBC lawsuit is just absurd (nothing new there for him), he might actually be the most petty man to ever live.

  33. The whole world is gonna switch to euros and then the US is gonna monkey fuck itself.

  34. Well that lasted all of 2 sec’s ha ha

Better off, putting time & effort into deals with the rest of the world. Can’t do business with the USA, with Trump & republicans in charge.

  35. An_Almond_Thief on

Seems to be a clear divide here, either get in bed with Trump and hope the next government doesn’t pull the rug from under you. Or move away from America products and services.

Or in other words, the easiest option vs the one with the least risk.
