    1. Absolutely awful. It’s not surprising now the daughter immediately pointed fingers to her brother.

Everything i hear about this guy just gets worse and worse. You can just tell his parents did everything to help him and for this to happen is devastating

It’s unpopular with both sides of the political spectrum for different reasons but there badly needs to be reform to make it quicker/easier for someone who repeatedly shows themselves to be dangerous and mentally unstable to be committed to mental health treatment whether they want to or not.

I live in Europe and an almost identical story happened here in the summer. A son with a long history of unstable behaviour and drug addiction brutally murdered his parents and severely autistic brother. Everyone in the local community knew he was deeply unwell mentally and becoming dangerous but it was almost impossible to get him held anywhere until he had already committed a horrible violent crime

This is going to be an unpopular opinion (which I posted in another group, too) by the look of it and may even be deleted. This post came up on my Google search and I came here to speak my mind, because I feel it’s so unjust to believe that the parents are the saints and the kid is the demon. We, as parents, create the environment our kids live in. We are their role models. This kid, Nick, he went to rehab when he was 15!! Still a kid…So, drugs had already started shaping his brain at that age. Then, in an interview with his dad about the movie they made together, his dad confesses that he was advised to use tough love (which meant that they left their kid to be homeless for a while), which he then regretted it. So, when he said they had tried „everything“ not everything they tried was right. Rob Reiner said: „there were all these doctors with their certificates and I listened to them, when I should have just listened to my son“. Then it was clear from that interview that Rob Reiner favored his other son-and that can kill a young man…of course he felt an outcast…of course he didn’t feel wanted and of course, he had become drug-crazy. And now he fulfills that prophecy where everyone is against him… I’m just glad that Gabor Mate is on this planet, where he advocates for the children and talks about how trauma fuels addiction…Parents need to take responsibility and try to give the love they never gave and they need to try again and again and again…because the hole that trauma leaves in the soul of children needs a lot of love to be repaired…
