Would it not be beneficial to the study to include daily nutrition and fluid intake (by the parent(s)) along with tracking weight and maybe body fat percentage? I know it may be a pipe dream, but would this also curry a more mindfulness for the parent(s). What and when they are feeding the child may be recorded? Obviously breast milk or formula for the children of this study, but for the eventual expanded study? Would a child benefit from sitting and witnessing adult conversations or even more rehearsed acts or plays on states of change? Like a mother or father being accidentally „hurt“ and suffers a state of change such as fake pain and shows maybe makeup? A bruise, to the child. The child sees the person go from a calm state to a state of pain which is all shown why and then the person who is injured is cared for by the other parent or family members and the state of pain then goes to calm again. Maybe the person injured isn’t out to traumatize the baby but to show them the different states. Would this be a way of externally showing the brain „change“. Could the parents be performative to the child ie. as in building a dollhouse for the child in front of the child (no loud power tools of course or loud hammering). I mean this as the study did not include how the baby was treated or cared for at home. We may be a long way from being able to study the development of the early brain but would these kinds of questions help? How invested are the parents in the development of their child(ren)? Should the study include the lives of the parents as well? What are the jobs of the parents? What environmental factors or pollutants are they exposed to? What and where does their food and water sources come from? What is their air quality? Do they have frequent visitors such as family or friends? What is the climate the subjects live in? I don’t mean to be anything but to be helpful and I would love to learn more. I’m sure there’s a ton of paperwork to be done to get through even suggesting such studies but I am hopeful for more studies such as this. Cheers!
