Personally I find Japanese companies very strict and I have long accepted I will never be a culture fit. So I was so surprised that by Korean standards Japanese companies are not as strict.. i have never worked or lived in Korea but is it so bad there ? Do companies try to call you on Sunday and expect you to answer their calls ?
Ahh yes. Korean rage and Japanese cheating. Match made in mordor
Have spoken extensively to Korean and Japanese graduates who have worked with the big companies in their countries. Overall, Japanese ones are very demanding but they do value good performers and after a time treat you well enough, though they do expect long hours.
Korean companies? Pretty much all of them are like the U.S. boutique investment banks and Amazon in terms of hours. There is a culture of near brutality to make people always scared to drop their game from very high standards. It’s as brutal as their secondary schools. Not saying this stuff doesn’t happen in the U.S., but in Korea it’s way, way more common.
I worked in thailand, korea, japan, and america sometimes. In terms of work culture, korea is by far the worst, like by a lot. Japan and thailand have seniority stuff as well but nothing close to korea in the modern era. Korea takes the senior/junior stuff to an entire different level. I have never seen anyone in japan getting disciplinary actions because „they didnt speak politely enough to seniors“, but i have seen that in korea. More than once. Not even mentioning the drinking party. More new gen in japan will just refused to go and thats acceptable these days. Because of the seniority stuff in korea, new/young employees often times cant refuse. Its fucked. Thailand have a different problem, employees often times just dont work lol.
no surprises there, Japan is due for another decade of economic stagflation. Despite all the societal issues, Korea is one of the few places still economically growing.
What’s the effective divorce rate of this group I wonder…….
They forgot the bit about dodging their 2 years of mandatory military service.
