  1. Americans really are something else. At this point Europe might as well stop treating them like close allies and start dealing with them like a friendly problem that could turn hostile at any moment.

I hope Italy will contribute 5% from GDP 🤔

    Otherwise this message means nothing

  3. Oh no what’s EU gonna do without all the US money? 😱😱😱 Shit should have happen years ago

  4. Europe defense could always use some strengthening, but the real problem is intelligence and logistics.

Europe needs more spy satalites yesterday.

Why does the US have to pay for EUs defense? Why were they not paying their share of nato costs to begin with?

I mean, good? I don’t like much about the Trump administration, but he’s not saying anything new about Europe’s failure to hit their NATO spending targets. The main difference is that he’s managed to convince Europeans he actually means it.

As an American of the old, trans-Atlanticist variety, I welcome a stronger Europe. We never intended for Europe to become protectorates, and our system of government (if not our economy and military) has begun fracturing under the strain of our ersatz hegemony. An independent Europe able to protect itself from Russia, and maybe someday willing and able to handle problems in its neighborhood before those problems turn into vast refugee waves that destabilize democracies, would release a lot of the pressure on us. If nothing else, the information operations Russia and China run would have to scale up to deal with multiple loci of importance.

We would lose the ability to do things unilaterally, of course, but as Iraq demonstrated, that was never a good idea anyway.

  7. I’m the most anti-Trump person I know but doesn’t it seem unfair that Americans cover the defense budgets for wealthy countries in Europe?

Glad she wants a stronger European defense but let’s see if she’s actually fine with Italy paying more to make it happen. Italy currently only spends 2% of GDP on defense while hiding behind the Nordics, the Baltics and Poland who take defense spending much more seriously. Realistically if Europe is going to be able to defend itself they’re going to need all their large economies taking the military build up seriously. Italy should be spending at least 3% of GDP on defense.

France has been calling for a European force for years, even under de Gaulle.

But it’s impossible with Germany stubbornly insisting on buying American equipment, and Italy doing the same…

  10. Europea hasn’t done shit for us covering their bills for 70 years, and the moment we start telling them to pull their weight they get all pissy. Good riddance, done funding and protecting Europe if they aren’t even going to try to protect their borders, and push that responsibility on us.

    Poland is cool though.

This is the same country demanding that a bridge from Italy to Sicily be counted as defense spending.

Europe should kick the US out of their bases around Europe. Evict the bastards.

What if Europe would suddenly change plans and stand with Russia against Ukraine and US? Byebye NATO, byebye economic inspired plans with Ukraine, byebye former European allies. This would deepely isolate Trump and the US
