Gonna be a lot of „Well I never supported him“ coming in the future.

Don’t care. If you voted for him, you own everything MAGA does. Full stop.

    2. The number of Republicans I identify as Maga has remained steady. It’s all of them. The orange stain is permanent

    3. White supremacists will simply rebrand, but it’s still the same oppressive, evil, white bread bullshit.

Personally, I think those hats should be glued to their heads for life, but good news I guess.

    5. OPENLY identifying. They’ll still be maga’s, they just won’t have the branding all over on everything they own.

That’s not a good thing. I want them to remain visible, they shouldn’t be allowed to blend into polite society when they are supporting those who want to rip it apart.

    7. How do they figure that one?

If you still identify as Republican, after all this, then you enable and support this. You can’t just pick and choose the bits of a political movement that you like and close your eyes to the corruption, bigotry and violence that thrives within it. This is especially true when said movement explicitly bases its campaign on a conspiratorial worldview, on the „vengeance“ it is going to exact and on the harm it will cause to those it sees as outsiders and foreigners. The message was loud and clear and the party went with it all the way.

Even in the most charitable interpretation where they didn’t really believe all that, they still went along with it because they thought they could use it to their advantage. You can’t just wash your hands in innocence and blame it on Trump, the people surrounding him or the people believing it all when you made the choice to enable and empower it, no matter what your motivation.

Someone cynically jumping on the band wagon of fascism because he or she thought it would benefit them is still a fascist, and a political party as a whole doing so in the pursuit of power is still a fascist party. Belief doesn’t come into it, as these movements thrive on bad faith, where they belief whatever they need to believe about themselves and their motivations to justify doing what they want to do. People who can make themselves believe that supporting Trump was the right thing to do can also make themselves believe that they were betrayed and deceived, that they are not to blame and that they can go on as they did without any change of view or moral introspection.

If they really reject Trump and his actions, they should create a own party from the ground up where the ideas that led to Trumpism are not welcome. And if they find they can’t draw a line there or are unwilling to give up the advantage of the existing party-political machinery and its advantages because it might mean giving up political power, then that says all you need to know about the sincerity of their rejection.

Nope. You want men who’ve transitioned into women to still identify as a men, and I want maga who have transitioned back to the couch to forever identify as a maga. I will personally ensure you never forget.

in other news, the number of republicans that are problems remains stable.

    10. Yeah, they did this after they couldn’t hide from the reality of George W. Bush’s presidency, too. As the wars on „terror“ dragged on and the economy imploded, all of a sudden the narrative became that Republicans never supported him, and definitely weren’t rabid about starting those wars.

    11. Remember they don’t like identification. Once a MAGA, always a MAGA. With all the damage they caused they don’t get to just walk away.

Newsweek sucks. The headline is really deceptive:
“The poll found that 50 percent of Republicans associated with MAGA while 50 percent felt more linked to the Republican Party. In April, 57 percent of Republicans associated with MAGA and 43 percent felt more kinship with the Republican Party.”

    13. PanicSwtchd on

A lot of Republicans are going to start making their way back into the tree lines and disavowing their support because they can see where the winds are blowing.

    14. Just saying you’re not MAGA means nothing. How many fascists say they aren’t fascists?

    15. Republicans free of Trump-stink:

      1. Lynn Cheney

      2. Adam Kinziger

      That’s it.

„Tea Party“ „Libertarian“ „Classical Liberal“ „MAGA“ they can call themselves whatever they want they all reek the same

    17. soon2Brevealed on

im sorry but I for one want to celebrate anyone who has the guts to admit they were wrong about him, because that’s the only way forward.. Resentment does nothing but fester.
Let them come forward and let them speak freely.. don’t force them into the shadows, or the cycle will keep repeating itself.

Peel off all your bumper stickers and throw away your hats…we’ll still remember your cruelty. We’ll just add coward to the list.

    19. Their opinions haven’t changed. They are just afraid of the stigma. Means nothing

    20. CrispyTarantula117 on

I bet they still vote for him.

It’ll just be like the actual Nazis. Nobody will ever admit they supported him

    21. Too fucking late. The Republican Party is over. It’s now the MAGA party. Can’t put the toothpaste back into the tube.

    22. AGrandNewAdventure on

They’re 100% still MAGA, they just won’t tell you they are because of the optics of it.
