Upd: Correction, it was an **underwater drone** not a surface vehicle
Note: If somebody can’t see the submarine, look a bit to the left of the explosion, because the circle was highlighting the place of the drone impact, not the submarine itself.
The Security Service of Ukraine conducted another unique special operation in the port of Novorossiysk. For the first time in history, **underwater** drones “Sub Sea Baby” blew up a Russian submarine of the class 636.3 “Varshavyanka” (according to NATO classification — Kilo). As a result of the explosion, the submarine suffered critical damage and, in fact, was put out of action.
On board the submarine were four launchers of cruise missiles “Caliber”, which the enemy uses to strike the territory of Ukraine.
This was a joint operation of the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU and the Ukrainian Navy.
The cost of the submarine of the class “Varshavyanka” is about 400 million US dollars. Given the international sanctions imposed, the construction of a similar submarine could currently cost up to $500 million. This class of submarines is also known as the “Black Hole” due to the hull’s ability to absorb sound and remain invisible to sonar.
As a reminder, the blown-up boat was forced to stay in the port of Novorossiysk due to successful special operations by surface naval drones “Sea Baby”, which displaced Russian ships and submarines from the Sevastopol Bay in temporarily occupied Crimea.

How did they sneak a drone in there? Surely there must be defences, sonar etc

Knocking out the weapons that your enemy uses to attack you is perfect. Like ‚Spiderweb‘ cutting the bomber fleet by 1/3rd.

Look at all the juicy targets in there..

So, russians evacuated fleet from Crimea ( which they occupied in 2014, because…“they needed warm port“ ( whatever )) to Novorossiysk, because Crimea happened not to be safe, and now even Novorossiysk is not safe…

seems like it hit the pier trying to make way to the sub

If this underwater drone got in there without being noticed despite Russia having patrol boats and ships patrolling the port that is giving me the impression Russia’s sonar may not be working which isn’t a unreasonable assumption when you realise that Russia hasn’t had to track underwater targets in a very long time

Comrade, good news. You have been upgraded to submarine!
But but
Yes yes!

In fact, this is the first example in history where a state that does not have its own naval fleet defeats at sea a state that does have a fleet. The situation is such that Russia is afraid to send its ships into the open sea because it cannot protect them from maritime drones.

How does Ukraine have access to Surveillance camera in the Russian port. This is a total failure of Russian IT.

I hope it’s toasted for good. It would be second submarine destroyer by Ukraine in this conflict.
