Seems to me it’s really just a CRUD app with what, like 100 TPS at best? Why is this so difficult to get right?

Of all the things I hate about workday, the one that burns me the most is „efficiency through self service“. The idea is you can get rid of an HR coordinator who opens job postings and just have the hiring manager do it! It’ll only take them 5 minutes!
But once the custom required fields are configured it’s surprisingly fiddly, and you’ve just fired the person who knows the ins and outs of it.
So instead of having someone making $50K/year open one in 5 min, you get someone making $120K to struggle with it for 25 min.
*Workday efficiency!*

Sounds like the biggest scam of all time. Congrats though to the sales rep that has that account.

Workday only getting $5m per year on the deal.
All the rest is consultants, contractors and implementers.
The money should be followed here, something stinks.
It’s also replacing 80 legacy systems, so probably a huge migration cost and getting shafted on that part

Switched to an alt account. Workday got (is) being implemented at the University I work at. My understanding is there are a number of penalty clauses written into the contract for non-performance such as missed deadlines etc. Not against Workday, but against the *university*. Of we don’t do our side of things quickly enough then we have to pay them millions of dollars. Oh and the length of contract was something like 12 years. We have major vendor lock-in vibes going on.

My experience with these meta systems is that users get into the mindset of what could we do with it not what should we do with it. The result is then they start listening to the sales people instead of their inside experts “it can do everything” but the price for “everything” isn’t fixed contract – only the “must haves” written in the first scope. And then this is a common outcome.

And it sucks absolute ass too. Every interface looks like an SQL database editor because they couldn’t be arsed to abstract over anything, and as a result every single operation requires a byzantine menudiving adventure.

It blows my mind how easily some people are sold on garbage.

I thought nothing could top Salesforce in uselessness until I encountered Workday.

how tf is this shit pos software even gets to cost this much? embezzlement?
How many years until positive ROI?
16k per student? Who negotiated this contract?
My alma mater’s migration to Workday has been a complete shitshow. Students constantly complain about how difficult to use and buggy it is. [One of the IT employees actually resigned over it](https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/06/01/vancouver-ubc-registration-system-change/) because it cost millions and added no value.
